You seem to downplay that none of the coach types you wish we had hired

wanted VT. Up until 2004, VT was an independent or outsider in the heart of ACC country. That yielding very little cred for the school so no matter the coach, the program was limited. The hiring of Seth pointed this out perfectly. VT swung for higher fences than Seth but even a couple of VT alums (Price for one) either stayed where they were or went elsewhere after selling to their other suiters that they just may go to VT. So then Weaver (I guess) had to get real about who really wanted to come to VT and could do OK here. He chose well in Seth. I thought the hiring of Bill Foster was the worst decision VT basketball ever made in part because I believe Hussey as successor was a part of the Foster deal. That was the time for VT to go with a potential rather than old and recycled.

There isn't much remaining online that discuss Greenberg's departure for VT
