...to tie or take the lead with the shot clock off at the end of regulation. And we've had 11 of those: the 4 overtime wins; the wins over Colorado St, Cal, and Syracuse; and the losses to Wake, Stanford, SMU, and Miami. So that's right, we've actually been good (or at least a tad lucky) in very close games this year, all things being equal, going 7-4. The issue is *why* so many of those games have come down to the final 30s. You could categorize both the Wake and Miami games as dogfights down the stretch even though in both games we had late leads. And the Elon game was a straight up heist by us. But the other 8 were all games we had pretty solid control of and either almost blew it or, in the case of the Stanford and SMU games, did blow in absolutely catastrophic fashion. And it's those two losses that will be the difference between NCAA and NIT in all likelihood. So it feels like we've been worse in close games than we actually have been. Mainly because we've subjected ourselves to most of those nail biters for no particular reason, but also because we had no margin for error and had two gigantic ones. Easy to experience that as "We are bad in close games."
