It's not the same at all.

The problem is not the portal, in a vacuum. The problem is not NIL, in a vacuum. It's the combination of both. It's that college sports has become a "league" with total free agency for every player after every season. With no draft, no salary cap, not one single mechanism to give smaller budget/smaller market teams one shred of hope that they can compete. Name me a successful pro sports league with that kind of setup. I'll wait.
