Here's is my view
First, what I dont want to get lost was that last night was an excellent road W. The team played hard and well for most of 58.5 minutes or so. Our defense was very good even in the first half when Cuse couldn't miss. I had a feeling the law of averages would take over and felt pretty good only being down 7. Fantastic games from Hammond and Tobi.
Anyone who has read my posts for the last several years will also know on balance I am a fan of CMY on and off the court.
I do think (obviously) the team has become incredibly tight in end of games situations. I am most definitely NOT a fan of the way CMY has utilized time outs. There have been several times this season with good leads down the stretch that after a make CMY has chosen to take a defensive TO (last night with about 90 seconds up 8 I think). And I think every time it has backfired. I realize the reasons- call a defense, remind the team no fouls, and work the clock- all valid. But these TOs have shown to benefit the opposition much more. Last night Cuse was about to wave the white flag or at minimum take 10 or 15 seconds off the clock to get off a shot. Instead our team overreacts and doesnt contest a open easy 3ball scored in 3 or 4 seconds and all of sudden Cuse has life, and we have doubt. (The SMU game allowed SMU to set up that lob pass under the basket.) And the matador defense in the last minute was painful to watch. The players are overreacting to CMYs instructions and not contesting WAY too early. Our lack of defense has repeatedly allowed the opponent to lengthen the game by scoring much too quickly , setting up their press and then forcing us to make FTs.
Of course the players lack of execution in press break, taking bad shots, missing FTs (and just plain bad luck) are what people rightfully blame, but I do think CMY has some culpability in creating at least some of these scenarios.

Bedford also handles the ball way better than Schutt. He's not as good a FT
