So much of the game is now played either outside the 3 pt line or within 5 feet of the basket that you're inevitably going to get wrestling matches inside and inconsistent ticky-tacky fouls called outside. IMO, it's almost unwatchable at times, but that's me. Plus the number of referees retiring from the business is far exceeding the number entering it. So the refereeing is bound to get worse. And will continue to do so. The one that puzzles me is the fouls committed on three point shots. How many 3 pt shots ever blocked? Almost none. Yet guys go hard defensively at either open shots they have no chance of inhibiting or bad shots which have a very low likelihood of being made.
