An administrative technical foul in basketball is a penalty given for a violation that doesn't count toward a team's foul total. Administrative technical fouls can be called for a number of reasons, including equipment issues, roster changes, and improper uniforms. Examples of administrative technical fouls Having more than five players on the court Having an improper lineup card Having an illegal jersey number Having a non-contrasting uniform Having equipment issues Having arena setup issues Delaying the game Having a violation after a team warning Penalties for administrative technical fouls When called before the game, the opposing team receives one technical free throw The game resumes with a normal tip-off The foul doesn't count toward the foul count for either team
