I've always wondered why he didn't get the VT job when Foster retired.

Foster's last season was 1996-97. Lo and behold, that was Mack's last season at Chattanooga. He led them to the Sweet 16 that year, and at that point had taken them to four NCAA Tournaments in the previous five years. 243-122 in his years there, with a 74.2% winning percentage in conference play. Instead, Mack departed for VCU that year, and we promoted Hussey. Mack would have made sense, being a Tech grad, our budget at the time, and his his success. I wasn't as big into hoops back then (I was in high school). Can anybody shed any light onto that?
