Per this article VHSL says yes

Back in July of 2023. "rules" from the article: A high school athlete will forfeit his or her amateur status, according to VHSL rules, by capitalizing on athletic fame by receiving compensation, endorsement or gifts by using the intellectual property of the VHSL or a member school. Intellectual property includes a school, district or region name, uniforms, mascots or logos. High school athletes can’t reference their school, team, district, region or VHSL while participating in NIL activities. They also can’t endorse or promote goods or services during team activities or events. ** Edited by Virtual Hokie at 3/29/2024, 4:44:50 PM

@GCHokie34 can you comment on this please? I’m a little confused.
Hardcore_Hokie 03/29/24 05:22 PM ET
Yes...
GCHokie34 03/29/24 05:24 PM ET
Gotcha. So HS (amateur) kids are getting paid for playing sports…
Hardcore_Hokie 03/29/24 05:29 PM ET
If that's your definition of amatuer...
GCHokie34 03/29/24 05:34 PM ET
High School is definitely my definition of amateur.
Hardcore_Hokie 03/29/24 05:46 PM ET
I'm under no assumption that really competitive levels are truly amateur
GCHokie34 03/29/24 08:11 PM ET
If you get paid, you’re a pro. Amateurs don’t get paid.
Hardcore_Hokie 03/29/24 08:17 PM ET
Yeah, I'm saying high school kids have been paid for decades
GCHokie34 03/29/24 08:24 PM ET
If you get paid in HS, you are ineligible. Nothing has changed but it has.**
Hardcore_Hokie 03/29/24 08:34 PM ET
This post is amazing, thank you for that!
Hardcore_Hokie 03/29/24 04:51 PM ET
There are HS players getting money for different things they didn't...
Cvillehoops13 03/29/24 03:43 PM ET
If a 17 year old accepts a shoe deal with Nike/Adidas/UA…
Hardcore_Hokie 03/29/24 03:48 PM ET
Yes**
GCHokie34 03/29/24 05:16 PM ET
Bacot had a big deal. Should it be? Not gonna chime in on that one.**
ancient alien 2018 03/29/24 04:13 PM ET
But not in High School though, right? I’m trying to figure out…
Hardcore_Hokie 03/29/24 04:16 PM ET
You still have to qualify academically to play in college
GCHokie34 03/29/24 05:35 PM ET
That I have no clue. Good question on the HS situation.**
