This is absolutely inexcusably ABSURD. How can you be a D1 team and have
ZERO guys who can come in and get 5 outs with an 8 run lead?

staff probably thought that with an eight run lead, and only five outs to get, they could put some struggling or unproven arms in there to close it out. That would theoretically save more good arms for the (likely) rubber match on Sunday. By using Swift we now likely won’t have him for the deciding game. To say ZERO arms is a bit hyperbolic, imo, but we obviously don’t have enough good, consistent, reliable arms for all roles. Lazaro has been coming on and he was a lefty on lefty situational match up attempt. Grim is our highly touted freshman who was a surprise weekend starter who was recently injured and is working back into form. None of these guys are zeros but they were not good yesterday.

I guess only perfection is acceptable.

would understand...bullpen has blown numerous leads by tossing 90+ octane on fires and Friday night we gave up a 5 spot in the 8th after leading 5-4, losing 9-7. Yesterday Renfro pitched his butt off and the first two guys in, Grimm and Lazaro, dont get an out and load the bases (2 walks, HBP, and a hit) while not throwing strikes...Swift shut the door and his change-up is awesome...but the angst you read was warranted and we were FAR from perfection...
