Head scratcher pinch hitting for Micheletti in the 9th…
With the game tied. One of our better hitters who had gone 3-4 and reached base 4 of 5 times and you bring in a freshman hitting around .200. And then it comes back to bite us in the 11th where his spot in the order was up and had to pinch hit Eisert with two outs and a runner in scoring position. It was a good effort given we started Neff and went against their ace but we burned a lot of our bullpen and have to hope Renfrow and Stieg can deliver strong outings.

He didn't pinch hit for Micheletti, he subbed for him in the Top of the 9th
for a defensive substitution. We left some guys on tonight and that came back to bite us but we did a lot well tonight. Very evenly played game tonight. Would guess many that pitched tonight will be available Sunday in some shape and form.

Thanks, I wasn’t able to watch everything at the end and missed that.
Bummer we couldn’t close it out in the top of the 9th. Hopefully we can regroup and avoid a sweep. Duke’s Saturday and Sunday starting pitching has been a mixed bag so hopefully Renfrow and Stieg can give us a shot at getting a win.

Agreed
But regardless of what happened that change was costly, it’s how the game ended. Instead of a .300 plus hitter with game on the line, they turned to players that don’t get it done. There is no one else? It’s a talented team. Well, nothing that can be done now. Let’s take two and win the series

Yes, I think pinch hitting just
to get the lefty righty matchup isn't as good for college as it is in the majors. These are not major league rosters - a bigger drop off to the bench. And the aggressive run to 2nd on a single with a runner getting to 3rd with what would have been 1 out cost them a possible game winning run. ** Edited by Boyds Hokie at 4/19/2024, 11:43:55 PM
