For anyone interested, below is a view that shows the key hitters and pitchers for Georgia Tech and what we should expect from a batting lineup and pitching perspective. Overall, this should be a competitive series that will be a good early season test. A series win would be a great outcome but it could be a high-scoring series where we’ll need our bats to come through in the clutch and our pitching staff to minimize walks. • Hitting: The Yellow Jackets have a good collection of hitters and arguably the top hitter in the ACC with preseason all-american and ACC player of the year candidate in CF Drew Burress. He has built off a fantastic freshman campaign with a good start to this year (.360 avg, 4 hr, 16 rbi, 5 sb). He fills the #2 spot in the lineup and highlights a steady and formidable top of the order along with SS Kyle Lodise (.391 avg, 1.330 ops, 4 hr, 13 rbi, 4 sb) who bats leadoff and DH/1B Kyle Schmidt (.447 avg, 1.251 ops, 2 hr, 17 rbi) who has primarily batted 3rd in the lineup. The middle of their order is highlighted by UTL Alex Hernandez who has 5 hr and 18 rbi on the year while 3B/C Vahn Lackey has been good with a .417 avg and 1.036 ops. The bottom of their lineup will likely feature RF Parker Brosius (.821 ops, 8 sb), C/DH Drew Rogers (.933 ops, 3 hr, 11 rbi) and 2B/3B Carson Kerce (.421 avg, 1.097 ops). • Starting Pitching: Georgia Tech’s starters will likely be Tate McKee (2.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) on Friday, Brady Jones (3.60 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) on Saturday and Riley Stanford (3.75 ERA, 1.83 WHIP) on Sunday. They are a solid trio with McKee especially having a good start to the year, but Jones and Stanford have struggled a bit with control so hopefully we can draw some walks and make some noise on the basepaths. • Relief Pitching: The Yellow Jackets have a decent bullpen that has had a nice stretch over their last 4 games (3 vs. Western Michigan, 1 vs. Kennesaw St.) that has seen them allow just 1 ER in 16.2 IP while giving up just 11 hits and striking out 18. Sam Swygert (7.2 IP, 1.17 ERA, 1.30 WHIP), Caden Gaudette (7.2 IP, 3.52 ERA, 1.17 WHIP), Carson Ballard (6.0 IP, 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP), Cooper McMullen (5.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) and Porter Buursema (2.2 IP, 13.50 ERA, 2.25 WHIP) are all righties that have appeared once in each of their 3 weekend series while Kayden Campbell (2.2 IP, 3.38 ERA, 1.50 WHIP) is the only lefty who has pitched more than 2 innings this year. Given that they have a righty-dominant pitching staff, I would look for our coaches to lean on our lefty bats in this series.
