VT ACC Tournament Scenarios
Hokies are cemented as the No. 7 seed in the ACCT and will play the winner of the 10/15 game on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Clemson is the No. 15 seed. It gets tricky after that, but the No. 10 seed will be NC State OR Notre Dame.
If Stanford beats Cal (playing right now), the tenth seed would be NC State. STAN/NCS/UVA would all be 14-16 but they'd move into a highest-common-opponent tiebreaker, that being FSU. Head-to-head applies first but is bypassed because the three teams did not all play one another.
- STAN beat FSU 3-0 (moves to No. 8 seed)
- UVA lost 1-2 (No. 9 seed)
- NCS lost 1-2 (No. 10 seed)
UVA did not play NCS, but owns the tiebreaker because it beat highest-standing common opponent UNC 2-1, while NCS lost 1-2.
Now, if Stanford LOSES to Cal, the No. 10 seed is a tie between Stanford, Notre Dame and Louisville, all 13-17. They've all played each other, so the head-to-head- tiebreaker applies. ND would play Clemson on Tuesday.
- ND finished those games 4-2 (No. 10 seed)
- Louisville 3-3 (No. 11)
- Stanford 2-4 (No. 12)
At least I think. This was painful to parse.
