From what I’ve heard from friends of program
And seen on Sabre - uva has their hands tied as a public institution and how the state works. Vandy has been the known “biggest” offender - that mid 2010s run was fueled purely by them using academic aid as a private institution meaning they could have more discretion. The rumor always was a lot of that money meant for the general pop found it’s way into the baseball program…. Best way I’ve been told is athletes are still pooled with the general populace at uva and uva does a lot more partials. What I do know is uva doesn’t give out full schollies rarely ever and they constantly adjust year to year on balance. What I will say is the recruiting profile of NE private schools means families have more money to pick and choose their program. Same for lax, swimming, etc.
With NIL, SEC got even better. Have also heard uvas nil across the board is solid, especially for “winning” programs but you see what LSU does with their transfers, etc. It’s still not at the point a baseball kid chooses uva over anyone else bc of NIL. Uva solely gets the players they do on the back of success.
As for aid in at uva - both my parents were uva employees 30+ years each, brother went to UVA, I was accepted at a public high school. Our aid package was $800….. for the 4 years total. Often times I found those who could easily afford it were the ones getting aid/merit scholarships (but that’s a whole other convo on paying for the SAT Tutors, elite private school money, etc.).
