The point is VT is not 2-10 but they are not sweep Wake either

We have a team that when things go right, we can beat some really good teams and when they don't go right we can lose to some below average teams. IMHO, in all sports, most teams are subject to peaks and valleys. Basketball under Seth suffered the same year ending fates. One other thing, IMHO there is a certain critical mass of talent that is necessary to make a deep run into a tourney or playoff. We do not seem to have that in football or mbb right now. That critical mass allows a team to reach down for a little extra this time of year. Teams that don't have if have a hard time reaching down for something extra after a long season.
