Martin had a fantastic summer in the Valley League in 2022 and that translated into a great year in 2023 at VT taking on a starting role. If Gibson can maintain his pace the rest of the summer, he actually has a slightly higher OPS than Martin did in 2022 (1.084 for Gibson currently; 1.056 for Martin in 2022), so at minimum I think the coaching staff could feel good about slotting him as the starter at either 2B (if Martin leaves as expected) or 3B replacing DeMartini.
