Ran over the 1st baseman (wo the ball)

Pitcher fielded and threw [tossed] to [at] 2nd baseman who he thought, IMO, was covering 1st. Threw behind 1st baseman who could have been called for interference since he did not have the ball but could have been determined to be making a play at 1st base. Since the runner hadn't interfered to that point and could have been judged to be avoiding the pitcher/1st baseman to fair territory, the collision at first could be safe since neither the runner nor the bag were touched with possession of the ball. Messy, messy, messy. A good Top Gun scenario for the class.
