The good news is we have a somewhat favorable ACC schedule…

Looking at the current Massey Composite Rankings, the four teams we don’t play in the ACC this year are all ranked in the top 7 in the conference and top 30 in the country. We have already played the toughest team (GT) and managed to pull out one win on the road against them. We face one of our toughest challenges this coming weekend in UVA on the road but then we don’t play another Top 25 ACC team until our very last regular season series with Clemson. So, the meat of our schedule from late March through early May will have a number of opponents we should at least be able to hang with. And despite all our flaws and weaknesses, we are 6-1 in games decided by 3 runs of less (we are 2-6 in games decided by 4+) so we have at least shown a good ability to win close games. The other thing to consider is that we are 1-5 against Top 25 teams and we only have 6 games remaining against such teams as of now and we are 7-2 against teams outside the Top 25. In any case, I think we’ll have a good read on what type of team we have by the end of March as we’ll have two good opportunities for home series wins against Duke (#66) and Stanford (#115). If we can find a way to go 1-2 against UVA and then get back to back series wins against Duke and Stanford, there would be some hope we can salvage the season but if we get swept by UVA and lose one of the Duke or Stanford series, then we’ll be staring at a pretty unsurmountable NCAA Tournament hill to climb. • #6 Georgia Tech: L, 1-2 (Away) • #7 Clemson: Home, 5/14 to 5/16 • #10 Florida State • #12 Virginia: Away, 3/13 to 3/15 • #15 Wake Forest • #20 North Carolina • #28 Notre Dame • #29 NC State: Home, 4/24 to 4/26 • #35 California: Away, 5/1 to 5/3 • #39 Pittsburgh: Home, 4/17 to 4/19 • #43 Miami: Away, 4/3 to 4/5 • #66 Duke: Home, 3/20 to 3/22 • #78 Virginia Tech: n/a • #81 Boston College: Away, 4/10 to 4/12 • #115 Stanford: Home, 3/27 to 3/29
