That was Tyler Dean and he was #98 by Perfect Game in the 2021 class. The only other Top 100 recruits we've had since 2009 according to Perfect Game were Mason Albright (#42 in 2021), Nick Morabito (#99 in 2022) and Blake Dickerson (#56 in 2023). All three of them were drafted and never made it to VT. So if Matthews remained Top 100 and were to somehow not get drafted in a slot he felt good about and we somehow secured his commitment, he would likely be considered our best baseball recruit in the last 15 years if not going back further.
