The Midlands bracket listed RB as unattached
Could be an error, or maybe freshmen can wrestle unattached during the gap between end of first semester and beginning of second semester?

Penn State WR and former VT recruit Matthew Outten entered the portal
Seems like a reunion is a no-brainer

I think David Taylor moving to Oklahoma State could be the X factor
in spreading the points more evenly among the teams. If Oklahoma State can routinely siphon enough talent and points away from Penn State so that 125 points is enough to win a team championship (which has been true 11 times in the last 25 years), I think there's real potential for the Hokies to compete for a team title, particularly in 2028 and beyond.

Yep. The entire Al Groh era was a never ending set of fumbles
on the recruiting trail for UVA. And we recovered a lot of them.

National Duals substituted for Cliff Keen for most starters this year
They went through back-to-back days of weigh-ins and wrestled 5 matches against high quality competition.

Not a viable PR strategy with the timelines for the CFP and the portal
The main window for the transfer portal is January 2-16. The CFP ends on January 19. There is no spring portal window this year. So any high-level SEC team that is hiring a new coach for 2026 wants that coach on board well in advance of January 2.
With those timelines, there's just no viable PR strategy for 'keeping his options open.' He either commits to staying at Ole Miss as soon as the rumor mill starts buzzing (and then, if he takes a new job anyway, deals with the PR fallout), or he navigates the ugly landscape in which he currently finds himself. I don't think there's a middle ground.

He's 175 as a sophomore
So probably projected for 197 in college.
For those who don't already know, he's a teammate of Bo and Melvin's, and one of the top recruits in the class of 2028. He has a nasty inside trip.

Fun facts at 149
It's early in the season so Wrestlestat's rankings for freshmen suffer from small sample problems, but still:
Noah Nininger is #3 at 149 in the new rankings (for all wrestlers, not just freshmen).
At #2 is Cornell freshman Jaxon Joy. Joy's only loss this season is an 11-1 major decision loss at the Clarion Open ... to Bo Bassett.
And Caleb would be #1 if he weren't redshirting.
The future is bright! Go Hokies!

Tomorrow's dual with Illinois may come down to Burton vs Scoles at 165
Scoles is a two-time blood rounder but had a brutal day today - faced three All-American caliber guys and lost to all of them.
My money's on Burton and the Hokies.

Carini is the #9 overall recruit on Flo's big board for 2027 recruits
Not sure we've ever had a recruiting class with 2 top-10 overall recruits. Or a big recruit from California. Love it!

He's greyshirting. You think Iowa is jerking him around?
(Not disagreeing with you if that's your take, just curious)

Don't sleep on Sonny Sasso
If he can stay healthy, get a little stronger and improve a bit defensively, the sky is the limit with his athleticism and offense.
Wrestling Board

It's a fair question
But also important to remember that quality depth can be critical in wrestling because significant injuries are not uncommon.

That makes sense.
Counting his greyshirt year, Eddie's been dealing with the grind of college wrestling for a long time. Maybe the coaches will put him on a pitch count to help entice him back for a team run at the podium.

Losing James definitely is a setback ...
... in our all-important quest to roll out the NCAA's most alliterative lineup in 2027:
141: Bo Bassett
149: Noah Nininger
165: Jayden James
174: Melvin Miller
197: Sonny Sasso

Sure, something went wrong. Nobody disagrees with that statement.
TJ's a stud and he's capable of placing highly at nationals, but something went wrong and it didn't pan out this year.
The problem is that you don't know what went wrong. You're just filling in the gaps in your knowledge with inferences, and based on those inferences, you're publicly insinuating that there are issues with TJ's character, dedication, or discipline. That's a dick move, and it says more about your biases and your character than it does about TJ.
It's entirely possible that TJ reaggravated the injury or that it didn't heal as fast as the trainers expected, such that the opportunity to get a medical redshirt had passed and the best remaining option was to send him out there injured and hope that he would qualify and heal up sufficiently to score some points at nationals. As others have noted, that scenario unfolds fairly often with college wrestlers.
But you do you. It's evident that you'd rather be confidently and loudly wrong than thoughtfully and quietly right, as long as you get to make snide posts about TJ.

Unless you have detailed inside knowledge
of the injury he was dealing with this year, how it affected his training, amd the effort he put in over the off-season, you should probably "focus" your self-righteous BS on something you actually know about. Your insinuations about TJ's focus and effort and urgency say a lot more about you than they do about TJ.

I think TJ is going to run through Fishback like a freight train. Again.

He posted pics of himself in a hospital bed on Instagram a few days ago
I have no idea what the hospital visit is for, but it doesn't look like he'll be on the mat any time soon.
And you're right, he's a lot of fun to watch. Wrestles hard.

Really impressive performance by Parker Ferrell
10-1 win over NC State's Chase Horne, and he took the advantage over UNC's Neves with a strong ride in the 3rd period. Horne and Neves were both highly ranked recruits.

Food for thought
I think the consensus on this board is that conference titles and dual wins don't matter to recruits, but do matter to fans, and I think there's a lot of truth to that. Even if the 'hardcore' fans care almost exclusively about nationals, I think casual fans are drawn in by high-profile dual wins and conference championships, and those casual fans become 'hardcore' over time. And we need to be steadily drawing in more casual fans over time to elevate the program as a whole - through attendance at home events and donations for SERTC / NIL, which definitely matter a lot to recruits.
Cases in point: As a fan, I think I was just as excited when Zach Epperly pinned Mark Martin to win the Ohio State dual in 2014, or when Sam Latona scored 4 points on Camacho in the final 3 seconds of the match to win the NC State dual in 2021, as I was when Caleb Henson boat-raced Austin Gomez for the national title last March. All of those things motivate me as a fan to attend events and give to the program.
So, while I agree that results at nationals matter much more than individual duals or conference tourneys, I think it's short-sighted to suggest that duals and conference titles aren't important to the big picture (which seems to be what some contributors to this thread are suggesting).

Not entirely accurate
Dresser's teams won ACC tournament championships in 2013, 14, and 17*, and regular season titles in 2015, 16, and 17. (*Dresser left VT for Iowa State prior to the ACC tournament in 2017, so Robie was the interim head coach when the team won the conference championship in 2017.)
Robie's teams won the ACC tournament championship in 2018 and regular season titles in 2021 and 2023.

There are at 6 tossups, and WS picked 4 of them in OSU's favor
I think 125, 133, 141, 157, 174, and 197 are tossups assuming everyone from each team is healthy. Win 4 of those 6, plus Caleb's match, and it's a dead heat.

If Hip is as good as we think he is
Then he'll turn some heads (and collect some scalps) at Cliff Keen. That looks to be a loaded field at 157.
