I remember those days. Free agency + facial hair were going to ruin
baseball. Reggie Jax disproved both of those.

One thing is for sure: The team is still heavily invested in the season. I
give them and the coaches and staff a lot of credit for that. I'll follow accordingly.

If you have the time, I'd appreciate hearing more about "the way he does
everything is so different...". I can think of a few things, but I know jack about coaching or navigating D1 basketball.
Thanks!

I felt like the quality of play was pretty good for most of the game, but
both teams are making mistakes as the end approaches. Kind of like watching this year's VT men's team.

Surprisingly, it's not. If you add up the seed #'s one or two have been
higher. And in fact, three of the four seeds are 5- or 4-seeds. Only FAU is a "low" seed at 9, and not really that low.
The disconnect is that two of four finalists are programs that many never heard of before the elite 8 round.

I see it the same. But I also feel like a good system with the right
players, and a LOT of luck*, can accomplish what they've done.
*I think that if we re-ran this years tournament 100 times, FAU X SDSU happens in 5 of those replays, max. They are both solid teams, but middle of the NCAAT pack at best.

What about a blanket salary cap? Call it $8 mil, for the sake of argument.
Hire as many staff as you want as long as you don't exceed the cap. Might lead to some new models for coaching. I certainly don't think it would harm the sport if the Sabans, Dabos, etc. were making $900K instead of whatever they are making now.

So, roster management is a huge factor. And does it follow that the HC
must have a clear knack for this, or can this be delegated to assistants? I'm guessing the former for long-term success, because of the constant turnover of assistants.

As much as I hate to disagree with you, I think that the evidence for a
huge gap between genders is pretty clear. Having said that, I've enjoyed watching this year's NCAAW tournament every bit as much as the NCAAM. Very high-quality hoops. I would characterize it as less athleticism but better execution.

Not exactly sure where you are going with this, but I'll offer that she's
been the equivalent of Steph Curry for her team.

VERY impressed with their comportment going off the court. Heads up, backs
straight. As they should be.

I actually do think that FAU has better athletes than VT. If VT and FAU
played 10 times...who knows?

I'm losing to my wife. Fortunately she's OOT or I'd never hear the end of
it. Hoping I can bounce back before she returns.

Who has the worst bracket this morning? Maybe me: 11th percentile on ESPN

Good post. I want VA to displace NC as the epicenter of ACC hoops, and that
can't happen without Bennett succeeding. And even though I might get evicted from this forum for saying this, I really like Bennett and what he has built.
With that said, my first reaction to Forde's column was "click bait lazy journalism", but then again facts are facts: the list of post season upsets is...not pretty. But I think that reflects the nature of this sport. It's hard to consistently live up to high seedings. Which is why the NCAAT is so much fun.

I texted my son two hours ago "I donβt think they will go far without
van der Plaas".
But I thought they'd go farther than this!
