When Dave was a senior in high school I was outside Dresser’s office, when a starter who was very good, came in to tell the coach his career was over. He was getting pinned and teched every match. A brutal emotional conversation. I asked coach if he needed an operation, and he said he needed three. Dresser said he was getting thrown to the wolves and he never complained. Coach said there will be a time when your son should be on an operating table and he is going to wrestle. That happened more than once. My son’s true freshman year they did a Dakota trip and he squeaked out two close wins with guys he looked like he should bonus. I wasn’t a good wrestler so I never questioned his performances. A few weeks later I did. He got a sinus infection on the plane ride, broke three fingers in a workout, a personal problem, exam problem,and the opposing coach shut off the heat in the weight cut room. He could lose 7 pounds in 45 mins normally, the first workout he lost 2 lbs. home turf advantage can be a thing at times. Old Dave McFadden
