That is a positively INSANE take.
He can play point effectively as a back-up, guard the other teams best backcourt athlete, shot 3 ball about 33% last thrid of season and could break down defender late in shot clock.
If he doesnt fit, we need a new coach. What player DOES fit in to MY system?

I would agree as he went to an SEC (deep pocket program) but...
Our roster was loaded with top 100 talent with more coming in. He was getting great talent and not losing them to others who have deeper pockets

It's completely unfair to these guys on the team
You can't ask Nickle to guard a guy like Bell in the open court. It's an absolute joke we don't play any Zone at all. Kenny Brooks uses it masterfully to change pace and to keep more athletic teams out of the paint... Mike young for some reason thinks he's above that

How in the hell can you play Nickel at the three, play man to man defense and expect to be successful. Pedulla bodies up a man on the fast break 30 ft from the basket who goes right by him for a layup.. All around piss poor

How about defensive game plan changes too- that ball screen D was pathetic
UVa been running that stuff for years and we have no clue how to defend. FG and FT scored 2/3 of their points in paint with players who can barely post up and score to save their lives.

True- That is a sobering thought
They could also play Dunn (@ 6-8) on Pedulla without worrying about the other defensive matchups. Beekman-Collins, McNeely-Nickel, Minor-Beran, Groves-Kidd, Dunn-Pedulla. This could be a 50-48 game.

I would run Beran more at the 5 though
... and run the Aluma/ Basile offense to get more open looks from 3 and more spread floor. Wessler can also do that but you'd likely lose a lot on D. Play Long/ Nickel at the 4

This is most concerning
Cattoor, Nickel, Beran, Long, Pedulla are all 35% 3 shooters but they can't get clean looks vs average defensive teams with athletes. Wake is very average on D and punked us.

I wouldn't call Jayden Young (or Rech) a whiff at all
If we loose him that's a BIG loss. He's 6-4, 200, athletic, nice stroke and good enough defensively that TB at UVa brought him in for a visit. I'm guessing he's struggling defensively because he's a upgrade over Collins.
Rech picked up offers from Miami, LSU late in the process.

Sure is frustrating
Mike Young has done a really poor job putting this team together. No alpha dogs, limited quickness and athleticism, just really poor. If he thinks he can scheme his way to wins in this league he sorely mistaken.

Recruit 125 to 175 talent and develop...
The issue is they are not developing. Cattoor is the only one who's gotten better. Pedulla can't hang vs better players, Collins has not improved his offensive game, the scheme is not getting Cattoor the open looks, and the higher level talent has transfered

Not sure who guards Boopie Miller . He is electric
He will torch Pedulla especially if he's not 100%. Best hope is that Collins is 100% and can stay in front of him and Pedulla guards Hildreth. Their guards are as good as anyone in the league

Ayobami Tifase 6-4 300 DT in portal from FSU
Looks like 3 years to play. Visited VT out of Concordia in Baltimore in 2022 so was a Pry recruit. Reclassified from '23 to '22 so was a late signee.

Buchannan was a huge loss
In HS and now at GW he is like a 6-7 235 lb point forward. He is initiating their offense, with a great handle and passing ability. Once his 3 pt stroke is developed he's like another Mutts. Just not a lot of guys like that around.

The talented players are younger. The experienced players aren't all that talented. And overall we're not very athletic. It's a total s*** show
