Question

How many new players will there be in a combination of high school and transfer portal recruits? I’m obviously not looking for definite numbers but with 105 scholarships available and the possibility of some current players on roster not being retained are we looking at a very large number of high school recruits as well as a larger number of transfer portal players than will be in the forthcoming James Franklin era? I’m probably answering some of my own questions in the question but just contemplating what could be a huge roster turnover and could there be an experienced QB coming in?

Antonio Dorn

Initial look in highlights is very encouraging. He is 7 feet tall with legitimate post moves and is 22 years old if I’m not mistaken? I heard he was playing professionally for a German professional league. Add him to Schutt, Avdalas, Lawal, Hansberry, Hammond, Pasha, Bedford, Johnson, could there be a 9 or 10 man rotation, barring injuries. Also with two more scholarships available, will there be more signings?

Junior League

Is the NCAA Basketball becoming a junior NBA league with all the pay for play scenarios?

Basketball Scholarships

Apparently have increased from 13 to 15. VT has a lot of work to do.

Florida St and Clemson

I’m not sure I agree with lawsuits but I understand their desperation based upon what is happening in football and basketball. The ACC has fought back sometimes successfully over the past few years with great coaching and some small victories but NIL has suddenly manifested itself progressively becoming the major reason teams are successful and has tainted the sport with the product on the field. The ACC is not a top conference in football or basketball. The money πŸ’° issue has always been there but now is the top issue. It reminds me of the haves and have nots in professional sports where the teams that don’t win maybe should be rewarded with the a socialistic type of revenue sharing in money or draft picks.

BUT

The portal gives more to the teams of major conferences that have more money. So far many more key players are leaving VT

Crazy Year

The Hokies with all the frustrations of this year and the valid issues which many have brought up ended up 2 OT games, 2 3 point losses, 1 4 point loss and a 10 point loss where injuries played a major role from being 11-1 or 12-0. Looking back some subtle changes in time management and some other issues behind the scenes which may have manifested themselves in games will make a difference. Does anyone remember a season of so many close losses? ** Edited by Jomonelson at 12/8/2024, 1:08:23 PM

McDonald Brothers

Are they still on the roster? I have not heard a peep.

It is What it is

I didn’t compare anything. I just posted records. Many Va Tech fans and followers always want to point out what is wrong such as Whit Babcock, Brent Pry’s coordinators and many more but the fact is the program has gone downhill from the last four years of Frank Beamer’s great coaching career till now. I don’t have the answers but as a fan it is very frustrating to be in the same position as last year. The one score record is abysmal and do we need to hire another coach to call timeouts near the end of half or a game. Several instances this year where time could have been saved to have more shots on offense. Miami before halftime and again at end of game was a biggie as well as many others. I’m not bashing Pry nor elevating Fuente. I simply think VT fans deserve a better program.

Records

Frank Beamer last four years 29-23 Justin Fuente 6 years 43-31 Brent Pry 3 years 16-20 Duke last 3 years 26-12 Miami 22-15 UNC 23-16 GT 19-18 NC State 23-15 Syracuse 22-16 Boston College 17-20 Pitt 19-18 Florida St 25-14 Wake Forest 16-21 Clemson 29-10 Louisville 26-13 UVA 11-23 ** Edited by Jomonelson at 12/2/2024, 1:09:08 PM

Recent History

VT Football is 40-45 overall in a conference where Florida St and Miami have not been good. If 500 is average where does that put this team? VT is simply not what it once was. I don’t have the answers nor does anybody else on here or VT Sideline Staff. They simply hype and report.

Brent Pry

Should donate the rest of his salary to NIL because he has not earned it

The Feeling Today

Numbness, almost giddiness, of the reality of not caring anymore about the state of Va Tech Football. The trauma is such that I realize that I can remove myself from this craziness. Va Tech is not now and has not been in a very long time a decent team to watch.

Va Tech Basketball Review

Rechsteiner So who did not play much last year Hammond Fr Schutt So who has not played much Johnson FR Young So who did not play much last year Jones Freshman apparently getting into shape Lawal Jr who still learning the game Poteat Sr Burnham Sr still learning the system Wessler has improved but still learning his body and system. I believe there are pieces here but all of the ball handlers are freshman or sophomore’s that have not played much and Penn St made that glaringly apparent with more turnovers that I have seen in a while.

The Question For Me

If MY has a great year then does he have to restart again? ** Edited by Jomonelson at 11/12/2024, 1:41:51 PM

Winthrop

Might be a NCAA team! They are picked second in their conference. I think they are coached by former Mike Young assistant.

Beamer

Last 4 years were 7-6, 8-5,7-6,7-6 so I do not think he had a ton of talent.

Fuente

And his staff had some of the best offensive lineman in recent history and two that left, Nestor and Hudson. There was also the development, especially with Christian Darrisaw. I insinuated that Fuente also did not have the NIL money.

Brent Pry

Year 1 Wins vs Wofford, BC and Liberty Year 2 Wins vs ODU, Pitt, Wake Forest, Syracuse, BC, Virginia and Tulane Year 3 Wins vs ODU, Marshall, Stanford, BC and GT Question for fans Fuente was 10-4, 9-4, 6-7, 8-5 through 4 years. 25-15 after three, 33-20 after four Who was doing better considering emphasis on football as far as wins and losses?

South Carolina Game

The Gamecocks got off to a great start versus Texas A and M and then the Aggies came back and took the lead before halftime while South Carolina was calling time outs to preserve time before the half ended. South Carolina then hit a field goal before halftime to tie the score and then won the game. Although South Carolina ended up winning 44-20 this game planning before the half illustrates how you win close games. You don’t let opportunities get away. Will they always be successful? No! Please make the COACHES game planning separate from player issues or performances. Those are two different issues!

Pry

I feel like watching the news conference he is trying to defend something that everybody else sees as a major problem. Yes the defense has not been great down the stretch. That being said time management from Vanderbilt to Miami to Syracuse has been atrocious! He won’t have that conversation apparently. You simply cannot piss time away when it may be an additional avenue to victory. I like Pry but it is getting nauseating listening to him defend this.

Defense and Time Management

Are terrible down the stretch of games. The coaching staff is lost on when to preserve time.

The Hokies

Vanderbilt lost to Missouri in OT BEAT ALABAMA Rutgers beat Washington Huskies Lost by seven to Nebraska Miami undefeated with help of refs😁😁 Is the glass half full or half empty? Will the Hokies go on a run and challenge Clemson?

As Things Simmer Down

VT is very close to being 5-0 so maybe the coaches and players are closer than we think. Obviously fans are disappointed by the start as am I but improvement in record is still there. Hopefully we can survive a trip to California vs Stanford, take a week off and mend and tackle the rest of season, including bowl game, get 9 or 10 wins.

My Review

I thought the players stepped up! The coaches did not!

Clock Mismanagement

The Hokies could have 3 or 4 more plays on final drive if they didn’t just sit and watch clock run down with 2 timeouts in their pocket? You can stop the clock in other ways! The Hokies simply wasted 30 or 40 seconds!

Mistakes on Special Teams

Squibb kick with 20 seconds on clock before half gave Miami a short field for a field goal. Not taking the three points and relying on Parker Clements to block on a fake!

What

Billy this is Brent Pry, he is a phenomenal recruiter, was a brilliant defensive coordinator at Penn State. His only downfall is he is 1-10 in 1 score games and Tyler Bowen is his best friend.

Pry

I like him. He is glad to be here. I have a theory that young managers, and coaches, hire people that they have close relationships with because they have that experience of togetherness.. it is evident that VT is being out coached Is this the coordinators who don’t have much gray? Are they too young? If the Hokies are fortunate enough to go 6-6 again will key players transfer out? Does this QB have it in him to have accuracy? Is it coaching, QB talent or a combination? When VT gets dominated and cannot make adjustments in time to make a difference and we are clearly being beat in key areas by lower to mid level Big 10 team and a lower level SEC team VT has problems. VT is just not a very good program any more. I remember but younger people cannot when VT was a very good team?

NC State

Great year last year but most of those players gone. The season may come down to Louisville transfers.

And Yet

No NCAA Tournament since Forbes been there?

Wake Forest Basketball

They return Hunter Sallis, Parker Fredrichson, Efton Reid and Cameron Hildreth plus a couple of good looking transfers. They will be tough again and threaten to be NCAA TOURNAMENT team.

Va Tech Roster Look

Definitely not an expert but diving into with all the new players Hysier Miller transferred from Temple where he was double figure scorer and starting guard at the point. Ben Burnham transferred from University of Charleston where he was a double figure scorer at 6’7” who does a little bit of everything. Mylyjael Poteat is a 6’9” bruiser who is skillful who probably only plays up to 25 minutes due to legs? Jaden Schutt is a 6’5” transfer from Duke who played sparingly mainly due to talent on roster and an injury but was a top 50 player and a shooter who could flourish in a. Mike Young offense? Rodney Brown JR is a 6’6” transfer from California who just shot 3 point shots, played in every game, and shot 39.7 percent as a freshman. Brandon Rechsteiner and Jaydon Young are two sophomores who should receive playing time. We saw them play last year. Young looks like a spot up shooter and Rechsteiner a back up point guard for now. Toibu Lawal is a transfer from VCU who is a gifted leaper and will play and add some excitement. How much depend on his other attributes as a player The two true freshman from Florida I have to admit ignorance on Tyler Johnson 6’5” and Ryan Jones at 6’8” with some bulk The other transfer from Eastern Michigan, Connor Serven, who is 6’8”, hopefully can play some defense and provide a few minutes. In looking at the roster keys will be, especially after Miller and Burnham, development of Brown Jr, Schutt, and Lawal as well as improvement in Young and Rechsteiner.

I Wonder

If players like Schutt, Brown will take a step forward.

QB Development

I want to preface this with I am not knocking QB or Quarterback Coach. The teams I have watched this year that have better QB play are Boston College, Miami, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, USC, and LSU. I also have watched teams whose QB play has been disappointing. Those are SMU, VT and Florida St. I know there are others. Vanderbilt and Marshall are not exactly top tier teams. Also the offensive line has been disappointing. ** Edited by Jomonelson at 9/9/2024, 2:07:24 PM ** Edited by Jomonelson at 9/9/2024, 2:08:24 PM

What will VT look like

How will new players mesh? Will new players be better defensively? They seem to be more athletic! How will they rebound? How will they shoot overall from 3 point land? Looking back to last year VT seemed to have issues defensively and the overall shooting was not as good as previous teams.

Disappointed

Vanderbilt, with Jerry Kill and their QB from New Mexico State, totally had their way with VT. Whether we admit it or not, they were not a more talented team but were a more prepared team. Vanderbilt simply ran clock and controlled tempo by getting a lead or keeping it close to put themselves in a position to win. Drones could not run nor Tuten. The short sideline passes did not work. What would work eventually when we tried it was to simply throw the ball downfield to open receivers because Vandy had everyone at the line of scrimmage. It took too long for our coaches to figure out. They were not prepared. Our defense could not stop their QB. The coaches were not prepared for misdirection. Also, with all the talk of fundamentals we did not tackle well and the ends got suckered in. On third and long they passed to Delane’s side of field and they made plays over and over. We could not make a stop. In all facets of the game we were beat. If this would have been Miami we would have been soundly beaten on scoreboard. Is this going to be another year where VT does not beat a good team. Either we progress or VT is simply a very pedestrian team that has a lot of players back from a team that didn’t beat anybody last year.

Every time

Heater is on with a one on one he has to bring up he is from New York! Brah you not from the city you from the country. You tell those lies to girls! Lol
