Related to your point I was a 6 season ticket football holder for 24 years
as a Golden Hokie .... Never got a call, email or as much as a sniff from VT when I stopped .... I gave enough money to fully fund a significant retirement plan .... No communication from VT what so ever .... There are some major disconnects in our athletic depart and Hokie Club

And that will complete my ultimate nightmare when we joined the conference
that never wanted us instead of parlaying our success of the 90's, early 2000's and getting into the SEC ... Becoming soft just like the ACC was and is ... Having cartoons on the jumbotron as part of the pregame hype ... and becoming the worst team in the worst conference ... Oh well it was fun while it lasted ...

The rule came out of pitchers launching theirselves towards the batter
During which both feet were off the ground .... sometimes this technique would result in the pitcher and/or ball leaving the pitchers hand 10 or more feet from the pitchers starting point on the bump .... requiring that one foot must never lose contact with the field curtailed this ....
