Don't disagree, but what's the solution?
How do you fund a renovation or better yet, a brand new arena? Where does VT get those funds?
It's easy to identify the problems -- the hard part is coming up with realistic solutions.

That as a once in a lifetime event.
I know a lot of people drove from NOVA and Richmond for that concert. Do you see people driving from NOVA and Richmond to Blacksburg for concerts on a regular basis? I sure don't -- not when they have a bunch of venues much closer to them.

I hear ya...
Again, if VT can find a super rich sugar daddy that is willing to throw money down a rat hole then by all means have at it. I think of Penn State -- they had the Pegullas (owner of the Buffalo Bills and the Sabres) pay for their brand new hockey arena. And what's funny is that the Pegullas stroked the original check for $88M and it turns out that wasn't quite enough. PSU went back to them and said they needed another $14M (a total of $102M) to fund it all including scholarships and the Pegullas did it. Think about that -- they went back for any extra $14M. How many people have we had ever give $14M?
Unfortunately, VT doesn't have that guy/gal. So it's like hospital triage. We have X dollars. Where is that X dollars best spent to help our teams succeed in today's world? I don't know those answers, but I'm guessing they just can't fit in a Cassell renovation or rebuild.
I do know that every year, ACC teams fall further and further behind in the arm's race. Look how many BIG and SEC schools have or are making stadium renovations. Even schools like Northwestern and Vanderbilt. That's what giant broadcasting contracts give you.
I think a new basketball arena would be fantastic. It would make recruiting easier for sure. Unfortunately, I think it's just lower on the triage list and it probably doesn't help that it's a very large "big ticket item".

I understand that...
And that's why I said "court". And like you -- I have no idea who would want to sponsor the entire Coliseum. Maybe it's no one and that's why it hasn't been done.
It's obvious that VT doesn't have an ultra rich sugar daddy.

It is Carillion Court
I know they paid $500k a year for 10 years in the initial contract. I think that ran out last year or maybe it's this year or maybe they re-upped.

Can you explain or give some examples?
Can you explain or give some examples of how you think VT can maximize revenue with renovations or building a new coliseum? I'm curious what those are because I've given it some thought as well.
The Blacksburg area is not populous enough to support major concerts (or even minor) concerts rolling through. Roanoke is barely big enough to support the ones it gets and it's more populous than the Blacksburg region.
I can't think of any other way to maximize the revenue based on the dollars you are going to spend to build/renovate - basically a return on investment.
Just curious...

I'm not sure if you are implying Pribula lost out
I don't want to assume, but it sounds like you are implying Pribula lost the #2 spot to Grunkemeyer. That was not the case. Grunkemeyer was redshirting and Pribula was #2. Pribula hit the portal during PSU's playoff run. He knew that Allar was coming back for his senior year and determined he didn't want to sit behind him again, so off he went. Grunkemeyer took over the #2 spot the following season.

And also lost to Oregon earlier in the year.
In my opinion, they shouldn't be in contention to win a national championship. But this is what the playoffs gives us.

I believe he's referring to the new rules for next year.
Next year, schools can use up to $20.5M to fund NIL. That is NIL direct from the school. However, this is separate from any money provided by NIL collectives. That is still the wild, wild west.
So yes, there is a cap. A cap for what the school can pay.
That is my understanding.

Take a look at their OOC games
I'm not poo-pooing what Diaz has done because winning at Duke is hard. However, their 4 OOC games were:
- Elon
- Northwestern
- UConn
- MTSU
In the ACC they've beat UNC, FSU, and NC State. Those aren't great teams.

AbsolutVT03 is spot on.
I find it hilarious that HokiePro thinks we can dictate when we are going to score our TD. I can imagine the conversation on the headsets.
Bowen: Hey, I've dialed up a trick play.
Pry: Well remember we don't want to score too quickly, so let's run a few lame plays and then we'll score our TD.
Our offense hadn't had a pulse the entire first half. You take a score anytime you can get it.

Why do you think we have talent?
We kept a lot of people that went 7-6 last year (and won a bowl where the other team didn't show up).
I'm confused on why fans think we have all this talent. Just because players return, it doesn't mean they always get better. Sometimes you don't want players to return.

I don't think they bring in anything close to $1.5M
Baseball has the largest loss of any of our sports. This is based on what I've read (see link below). According to the report linked, baseball brings in about $600k while spending $3.4M.

These are great ^^^
I also took these while riding and it really helped. I highly recommend these for helping to prevent cramps.

Yellow mustard...
It does not prevent leg cramps, but if you get one, take a spoon full of mustard (or a mustard pack) and it will provide near instant relief.
Yes, I know this is hard to believe and everyone will poo poo the idea, but it really does work. It works if you wake up in the middle of the night with a leg cramp -- mustard and it's gone. But it doesn't help prevent leg cramps. Hydration, electrolytes, bananas -- all those go towards preventing leg cramps.

Yes, I've seen a few.
There was actually a very small one (less than 20) tonight in front of the Municipal Building on Main St. A couple of weeks ago there was a much bigger one (I would guess 100) that were out on Henderson Lawn by Main St. So, yes they are occurring here as well.

I'm not so sure...
Michigan could have sat their starters in the BIG championship game and they would still be in the playoffs. They were in whether they won or lost. I could see some coaches playing their starters for a quarter and then sitting them. Save them up for the playoffs -- that's all that matters.
Football Board

Well, FSU already has 5 starters that have opted out...
And that includes their stud DE, Jared Verse.
I for one wanted to see them roll UGA just to throw egg on the "experts" face. But with the opt outs I can't imagine the motivational spirit being very high in that locker room and thus I think UGA will roll. I hope I'm wrong...

Unfortunately, we (myself included) keep watching...
I get so mad at myself that I support all this crap/BS. The game is so great at times, despite what others have done to ruin it.

You may want to go read about it...
Sadly, I didn't feel like the coach called him out. I felt like the coach accepted it and rolled with it. Maybe I misread it, but that's what I got out of it.

That counted as a playoff game, in my opinion.
Personally, I looked at the Michigan/Ohio State game as a playoff game. Loser is out -- plain and simple. Why do I need to see that loser play in a playoff? They just missed their chance.
JRHokie is right -- it's all about the money. People are going to turn on the TV and watch all these games.

The census counts
The census counts students where they reside "most of the time". This is why they are counted in the Blacksburg population.

I highly recommend the Best Beer Tour
The link is below, but it's at the Best Place at Pabst. While they do talk about Pabst, it's a great history tour of all American beer. It's called Best because that's what Pabst used to be called "Best Beer!". I found that out on the tour. It was great marketing because a man would come into the bar and say "Give me the Best!". I've done a lot of beer tours but this was one was fun and informative (and it wasn't just "here are our grains...blah blah blah...and then this is the wort...blah blah blah). I highly recommend it.

Maybe he did maximize the talent.
That's a really hard thing for us fans to know. As fans, we always think our teams should be better/play better. Maybe Pry got every single ounce out of last years talent and we were lucky to get the wins we got.

IMO - No
As soon as a school can leave (can financially afford it & have an invite) they are gone.
Iâm really not sure why they put this in place because itâs not going to change anyoneâs mind.

Spot on BG!
Add in the fact that Hooker had entered the portal before that season and then pulled his name out, VT fans were done with him.
But VT fans love to rewrite history and also use the power of hindsight.
It gets old.

He didn't hold a clipboard. He wasn't a backup.
He didn't hold a clipboard. He wasn't a backup. He took over the starting position in 2019 during the third game of the season. He started 8 games for us that year.
He was cemented as the starter headed into 2020, however a few weeks before the season he had a medical issue and wasn't cleared to play. He sat the first two games. Hooker came into the third game late in the first half. He then started the next seven games. The seventh game was the Clemson "incident" and he was pulled and then didn't start or play in the last game of the season (UVA). He transferred January 7th of 2021.

I can guarantee that whoever starts,
the back up is better and should be starting. In fact, he's probably got All-American talent and Pry is just letting him rot on the bench. It makes no sense.

Based on what I've seen...
This is the exact kind of behavior ADs want to see in their head coach. It shows he can do what is required to attract the talent needed. I'm not sure this is TIC or not...

I agree.
Was it foul -- yes. However, I don't believe it was as violent as most fans on here are making it. Soule tried to sell the second one with a flop. But come on -- it wasn't that strong of a foul.
I know this will not be a popular opinion on here, but that's just how I saw it.

I think the average fan (myself included)...
I think the average fan (myself included) has no idea what these guys go through. You mention the injuries. I was talking with a former wrestler who told me about his weight cut. It was just crazy stories. Again, the average fan has no idea what to cut so much weight and try to maintain your energy and strength.

I think it's bad for the league as they look to the NCAAT
I think it's tough for those four teams -- VT, Duke, NCSU and UNC as we look to the NCAAT. At this point, there is jockeying to be top 16 and grab a 4 seed for the NCAAT. I think that's really important. By having all these games back to back and at the end of the season, it could hurt each and everyone of these teams. If all four just share in the wins and losses (kinda of equally) then all it does is move the teams down in the national rankings. So rather than the ACC having a three 4-seeds for the tournament, it could turn out that it only gets one. That would be a let down for the league.
While it seems cool and neat from a fan and conference perspective, I don't think it helps the league nationally position their best teams for the NCAAT.

I agree (a little more).
Along with wrapping it in foil, wrap the foil in a towel as well. Put it in the cooler and you'll be great.
