I'm seeing a few mentions of people upset and am a bit baffled. Are we really upset our guys were disappointed in their season and don't want to be force to go out and play in a meaningless post season tourney? My initial reaction was "Yeah, that seems appropriate given how the season panned out". So why are folks upset? Because they wanted to watch the Hokies more? How was our home attendance this year? Would we have packed a Cassell for a home NIT game or had another embarrassing display of fan support? I have to imagine booing and not showing up to games impacted some player's desires to play more.... In all seriousness, who cares? Let's all just move on from this season and not drag the disappointment out any further.

Amani twice told Mike young to challenge a play this year (that I recall) and both times the call was not overturned and we lost a timeout. That happened another time or two with other players as well this year. Last night, we finally got a review to go our way with the OOB call. Except it didn't. Because we challenged and it was overturned, we then got the ball and first used a timeout anyway, and then got a flagrant 1 to give Wake 2 FTs and the ball. So we finally got a critical review to go our way and it actually hurt us more than if it hadn't... Just our luck :)

If you what you say is true, then it's most likely that VT is reserving those tickets for their ticketing partner - SeatGeek. This is a common strategy and is obviously a delicate balance. The goal is to keep the donors happy with their access, but also MAXIMIZE revenue. We talk about revenue all the time and keeping up with other conferences and programs, and this is one basic way to maximize revenue.

I would be shocked if he did anything but enter the draft.. His measurables and potential are there, and that's what matters for the NBA. I think he came to college for more exposure and he's gotten it. Yes, he wanted to elevate his stock to a lottery pick level, and maybe he hasn't done that (yet), but he's gotten the exposure and seemingly assured himself of being drafted. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the weaknesses in his game, but those are likely all fixable. He's not reliant on being a taller, faster or more athletic than his competition to be productive, and that is important because he won't be any of those things in the NBA.

A fibula fracture is More likely and usually requires 4-6 weeks to return to competition. Note I did not see the mechanism of injury.

He gets it out of his hands and to other players well. Also, look at many of the top players in the NBA. So many of them weren't THE BEST college player. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 14ppg and 3 turnovers a game at UK. Now he's averaging 33ppg and 1.7 turnovers per game. Austin Reeves was good not great in college, but the officiating of the NBA game allows for him to shine. The list goes on and on. College basketball is played and officiated so differently than the NBA. That's why you hear so much about potential.

We are in a good position heading into conf play. The ACC has done better in non-conf this year so we will have plenty of chances at good wins and improving our metrics. ACC is still probably 4th best conference at this point, mostly due to the bottom 3rd of the league.

The conference has definitely improved, and we should get a few more bids this year because of it.

VT has 13 games scheduled against ACC teams currently in the top 80 of the NET rankings. 9 away games and only 4 home games. We actually need top 75 road wins for our resume (Q1), but the schedule definitely gave us an easier home schedule than away schedule - making those games even tougher to win. I admittedly didn't get to watch the entire games closely. I just seem to see him getting beat off the dribble pretty consistently, but good point on the tough defensive matchup. Mike Young did speak very positively about him so I'll trust his opinion over mine.

but obviously his ability on offense makes up for what he lacks on defense. I like him and hope for the best, but I worry about our defense in general in ACC play.

The fact of the matter is that publicly available information indicates VCU basketball players are set to make more than VT basketball players. None of my statements or knowledge are based on any insider knowledge. Q1: I don't know how that works. Was not claiming to have inside knowledge of how much they made. I just googled VCU Revenue Sharing basketball and multiple articles came up reporting that figure. Q2: My estimate was based on the reporting that Franklin has been promised $15M in revenue sharing. That would leave only $5M for other sports. From there I assumed Whit/VT would want to provide some for other sports and made that estimation entirely on my own. I've now done a bit more research and found that it is publicly reported that VT basketball players are set to make about $230k each. I was off by about 15% on the high end of my estimate of $100-200k. Link is at the bottom. VCU players are set to make on average $300-380k compared to $230k on average for VT players. Here is one of many, many articles reporting that figure for VCU ($4-5M divided by 13 scholarships). This whole thread is regarding the $229M budget you alluded to, and the point is that doesn't affect the amount of revenue we can share with players. We could contribute $2 Billion to the athletic budget, and that won't change the max revenue sharing is $20M. Additionally, VCU could potentially contribute a full $20M into basketball revenue sharing if they want. VT has already promised $15M of the $20M to football, so we could only increase this marginally. I've not claimed to know what goes on behind closed doors, only tried to highlight what many fans, including you, have failed to realize. Basketball programs without a football program can have a serious advantage if they want it.

Nice quote on my statement, but you have no clue what the reality of the NIL funds available are. And everything reported thus far indicates VCU basketball players will make more than VT players. That is the benefit of not having a football program.

VT hasn't announced what our rev sharing plan is, but if the rumors from the Franklin hire are true then VCU basketball players are very likely to make more in rev sharing. Potentially $400k for each VCU player, compared to $100-$200k for VT basketball players. Feel free provide your opinion on coaches, but you lose credibility when you make statements on things you don't know anything about.

Deloitte's role is not to DENY or invalidate any NIL deal. Deloitte's role is to review and evaluate submitted NIL deals. Deloitte does not say "you can't do this". Deloitte will say "cleared" - which means this deal checks the boxes for fair market value based on a variety of factors. If the deal does not meet requirements, they will outline so and allow for restructuring of the deal so that it does. The NCAA is still responsible for separately pursuing, reviewing and evaluating any deals that may violate any eligibility requirements. Until the NCAA does something about any NIL deal not following the rules, there is still really no strict regulation. As someone who has worked closely with Deloitte for years, they are experts at creating a perceived value/role in your business, and in this case they are giving the NCAA a legal crutch to point to their position and role with NIL GO. The NCAA still hasn't shown they are willing to pursue any potential NIL deals that don't follow guidelines, although I believe almost all submitted to NIL GO have been cleared (or at least restructured to eventually clear). I've spoken directly with Deloitte Sports executives on this matter and I assure you, it's classic consulting/auditing positioning. Again, if your NIL deal is not "cleared", they will tell you it is not, and allow you to revise repeatedly until it does "clear". It's more of a resource for reassurance for both the NCAA and the players (the NCAA doesn't want 1,000 NIL deals that violate any rules, and players don't want to unknowingly become ineligible -not that the NCAA is willing to push that issue right now). To add further nuance to all of this, the criteria used to determine fair market value is so vague and complex, it's almost impossible to not make an argument for fair market value. For example, one of the factors in determining fair market value is explictily stated as previous NIL deals for similar circumstances. So the precedent has been set that a top QB, performing certain basic obligations, is already worth the price set forth. I don't know what that number is, but for example if Carson Beck is paid $2M for x, y and z - that is now the precedent for some of the criteria for fair market value. A bit long here but the summary is this is all mostly for show. I'm not in the know but I'd assume every major transfer we've gotten in football and basketball over the past two years technically broke some rules relating to discussing NIL opportunities. This just looks like the media blowing the implications out of proportion to try and get more clicks...

They won't be likely to make it into the top 30 due to their remaining scheduling being less than stellar. As you saw last year and we've seen stated publicly, the committee does not put much, if any, weight on the conference tourneys. Either way, I hope we get to find out who is right!

Penn St. is 10 spots out but with a tough B10 schedule they could easily make the top 50.

Was a pleasant surprise this AM.

Bart Torvik has a player rating metric called PORPAGATU! (points over replacement per adjusted game at that usage). Currently Pedulla is at 5.1 which is good enough for tied for 38th in the country. He is the 2nd highest underclassmen in the country in this rating with only Bama's Brandon Miller ahead of him (1 & done lottery pick freshman). PSU is currently a Q1 win at 49th in the NET. UNC is 37th in the NET and assuming they end up finishing in the top 5 of the ACC, I'd have to imagine they would move into the top 30 NET for a second Q1 win. Then finally, OK St is 54th in NET currently. They'll drop a few after today, but their conference strength will give them plenty of chances to move well into the top 50. I'd give all three better than 50/50 shots at being Q1 at season's end.

in HS but did end up playing his last year in Dayton/Ohio if I recall.
