18 degrees in Columbus GA….
I had to carry our puppy outside to pee. When I opened the door to let him out he looked at me like I was nuts. As soon as I put him on the ground he bolted for the house. Then he peed on the kitchen floor.

My Dad was on the battleship Maryland.
He arrived in Hawaii the day before, Dec 6th. He was assigned to an anti-aircraft gunnery crew. None of them had been trained yet. By the time they located their gun, removed the tarp & read the manual, the Japanese were gone. They never fired a shot. When the alarms first sounded he was asleep in his bunk, he thought it was a drill & was slow to react. Until the explosions started, then he knew he wasn’t in Kansas anymore.

My son tutored at UGA. He is a big Bulldog fan but boy does he dislike the
Athletic dept there. The crap athletes get away with is mind boggling.

1963 VW Beetle My Dad flipped 100k & gave it to me..
I got it because he was tired of driving from NOVA to Bburg to get me. I flipped the 200k & would still be driving it today if the bottom hadn’t rusted out. Every tool I needed to service it was kept in a small tackle box.

Some advice from a 71 year old former runner……
I was an avid runner in my 20s & 30s. I trained for triathlons running about 30 miles a week on top of swimming & biking. I hstopped triathlons when I started having kids in my 40s but continued running though less distances. Around 50 I started having trouble with my knees & feet & on advice from my podiatrist stopped running. In retrospect, given my body type, I shouldn’t h as be run so much. Any time I had a long run I should have skipped running the next day to give my bones & joints a recovery day. And instead of concentrating on increasing my mileage, focus on shorter, faster runs. I’m typing this without my glasses on, so I hope it’s not to incoherent.

True believer in Santa!
My eldest daughter was in 6th grade when we told her Santa wasn’t real. Her classmates were mocking her for believing in Santa & it was starting to ruin her Christmas. Even her 2 years younger brother had wised up. I can still picture the sad luck on her eyes after we told her & she asked “ and the Easter Bunny too!” To which I replied “and the Tooth Ferry too.”

If you have the time & patience, grind is better. However,....
the freshness of the beans affects the flavor more than anything else. Recently picked & roasted beans are best. But in the US you usually have no way of knowing when your beans were harvested & roasted. I have a friend who owns a small coffee farm in Honduras & I get a 10 lb bag of Copan coffee from him occasionally that is no more than a few weeks old. It's always better than anything I can buy in the US. Coffee is like any other crop, it tastes best when freshly harvested.

Where do you live? I'm in GA & most roof crews are Hispanic.....
I'm amazed how they can complete a house in one day in GA weather. I worked on a framing crew in my 20's & would be worn out by the heat. The worst part was laying bleak tar paper on a new roof. These guys are up there all day. What puzzles me is they have layers of clothes on. I would be in cut-off jeans, tennis shoes & no shirt. That may explain why I have to get skin cancer treatments every six months.

Shrimp, crabs & mussels. Add corn on cob & little red potatoes & a bag of Zataran's. Bowl, peel & eat.

I blend two brands...
Starbucks Veranda with either of two Community Coffees, Pecan Praline or Chickory. Two parts Veranda with one part Pecan Praline or one part Veranda with two parts Chickory.

My neighbor across the street buys at yard sales then resells on eBay……
He is kinda creepy looking & well known for haggling over the slightest penny. His garage & backyard are full of junk he has bought to resell. Makes me almost wish our neighborhood had a HOA. Oh yeah, his claim to fame is that he once was Elvis’ hair dresses. His wife, equally wacky, likes to garden while blasting old Elvis records on her stereo. A real hunka hunka burning love!

When I was 7, in 1958, we traveled from Hawaii to Japan on an ocean line….
We ran into a bad storm that had most of the passengers sea sick. They would tie people to the railings on the observation deck so they could barf into the sea without falling overboard.
