Freddy and College Football

Freddy, the FIFA tourist who toured the US and was very impressed by what he saw of the US, just announced on β€œX” he will be touring the US in the fall specifically to see College Football. He was looking for suggestions of which schools he should visit. No surprise thst the great majority were the big name SEC schools and a few B1G, mostly Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. What was very surprising was the number of recommendations that he should see a game at VT. Maybe the Sandman entrance kept VT more top-of-mind during team’s winning drought! Recos even came from prople who noted they were not VT fans. This is not scientific by any means but it puts the Tech image in very good company. Whether that means anything in the realignment duscussion remains to be seen.

Remember he gets kids to go to UCONN

Knowing they have 0% at the national championship and then coaches them to play hard for 60 minutes. He is turning UCONN around like he did at UCLA!

Cost to coach who quits

To take another coaching position within the period of his contract β€” β€œpays” what to the school he is leaving?

Listen to Jim Mora

Why what he does is attractive to players and his understanding of the new world of college football. Start about 18:30 of the press conference he had this week. He could the guy or the kind of guy we need. https://www.youtube.com/live/L18EbqDl8_M?si=cp5gG4QH04aUgtjZ

Jim Mora?

Head coach in NFL and college (UCLA); took UCONN to first winning season (9-4 last year) since 2010. Now 4-2 (2 losses in overtime). Rest of the year will tell the tale.

I was there too!

Beat wide reciver Fred Biletnikoff who went on to become a NFL Hall of Fame receiver. I think the game was in Miles Stadium.

New article on UCONN/Big12

Note espcially the comments by Coach Mora and AD Benedict regarding the commitment to increasing $ for NIL’s. New QB this year comes via Texas A&M and Wisconsin. ** Edited by BigMike_ at 8/28/2024, 10:24:59 PM

My son had season tickets to UCONN (45 yd line upper deck).

Games were good and competitive: West Virginia, Pitt, USF, etc. Best game was against Michigan. They brought in extra bleachers in the end zones. Biggest crowd ever in stadium. They had a narrow lead very late in the 4Q and ended losing in a very close game. Given a good coach and incentive they can be very competitive. ** Edited by BigMike_ at 8/28/2024, 7:53:04 PM

Memorable FSU games

For me, the 1964 win in Blacksburg, probably the biggest upset while a student. QB was Bob Schweickert (drafted by AFL and NFL, he chose the Jets but was beat out as the starter by a QB from Alabama - Joe Namath). Then my first trip toTallahassee in 1965. A close loss but what a huge stadium! And, all the invites to frat parties after the game. Good memories.
