Dudley (Greensboro, N.C.) junior quarterback Hendon Hooker committed to Virginia Tech yesterday afternoon, but the good news didn't stop there for head coach Justin Fuente and company. Late last night, Mandarin (Jacksonville, FL) junior linebacker Aundre Kearney tweeted the news that he also had committed to the Hokies.

While in Blacksburg on an unofficial visit on March 19, Kearney tweeted that he "loved it" at Virginia Tech. (Click here to read the entire tweet.) The 6'0", 215-pound prospect committed to Miami last June but reopened his recruitment in February. Kearney, who had 15 scholarship offers in total, visited Wake Forest and Virginia Tech after de-committing.

Kearney was a major factor on both sides of the ball his junior season, amassing 107 tackles including 17 tackles for loss and six sacks and rushing for 450 yards and 14 touchdowns. FloridaHSFootball.com selected the two-way standout to its Class 8A first-team all-state squad as an athlete as a result of his junior season performance, which helped Mandarin to a 12-1 overall record.

247Sports, Rivals, ESPN and Scout all rank Kearney as a 3-star recruit, with Scout the only one of the four recruiting outlets ranking him as a running back. The other three list him as a linebacker.

Virginia Tech now boasts four commitments in the class of 2017. Joining Hendon Hooker and Austin Kearney are state of Virginia stars TyJuan Garbutt (DE/TE, Riverbend H.S. in Fredericksburg) and Devante Smith (DB, Stonewall Jackson H.S. in Manassas).
