Virginia Tech fans want to see the Hokies have more success with top-flight in-state recruits. With today's commitment from Riverbend (Fredericksburg, VA) defensive end TyJuan Garbutt, new head coach Justin Fuente is off to a great start in this regard in the 2017 Class.

A prospect with double-digit scholarship offers including out-of-state powers Michigan State and Oklahoma, Garbutt is rated a 4-star prospect by national recruiting outlets 247Sports, Rivals and Scout. The 6'3", 220-pound prospect comes in as the no. 4 prospect in the state in my early Top 15.

Garbutt got the job done on both sides of the ball his junior season, totaling 69 tackles including 30 tackles for loss and hauling in 30 catches for 600 yards and six touchdowns (stats per Taft Coghill of the Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star).

"First off, without God this would not be possible. I would like to thank my family and friends for their love and support. I also want to thank all of the college coaches for the opportunity to attend their universities. I am extremely blessed and excited to announce I have committed Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. #LunchPailD #HokieNation" - Garbutt wrote in a Tweet, which you can see below.

Virginia Tech now has two commitments in the class of 2017, from Garbutt and Stonewall Jackson (Manassas, VA) athlete Devante Smith. Stay tuned for more on this development and today's Junior Day recruiting event, but in the meantime check out highlights of the newest Hokie below.
