Ayden Greene has been one of the few success stories of Virginia Tech's 2023 recruiting class. (Jon Fleming)
The early Brent Pry signings were supposed to transform Virginia Tech from a program that many thought was running out of talent under Justin Fuente to a winning team. Instead, the opposite happened, and a look back at those signings indicates that the Hokies perhaps got less talented over time rather than moving in the right direction.

Could part of the failures be a lack of early appropriate development (not good coaches and/ or changing coaches)?

I enjoy these articles if only to see where all these recruits end up. Proves recruiting is not even close to an exact science even today.

Wittke is the only VT commit that I know of that lost his starting job his senior year in HS.

Don't forget Belfort

CC thank you for an insightful look at our recruiting/development/retention
This really emphasizes what we need to improve our roster in talent and depth
Simply incredible to read this; it tells it’s own story
Ranger Sam
Shows 2 key missing elements over the past 10+ years here. Believe Franklin’s evaluators have proving better on paper so far and we’ll see how well coached and developed they become.

Ghannan is a success because he was a contributor albeit not a good one. Also not his fault that he started because we had no viable alternative

Worthless dissertation. Don't need to waste my time on stuff like this.
Hokiestud
You obviously thought enough of it to comment on it.
El Hokie
Which means he may even have read it, wasting his own time.

That seems a little harsh, but it does illustrate what we all know after the fact and that is Pry did a horrible job of evaluating talent as proven by his the W-L record.

Really?

If the talent floor is rising then so is the ceiling. I'm hoping to see a better team this fall.

Facts don't lie. Player evaluations matter, as does player development.

Chris, I don't know why a minority of posters were bellyaching about this article. I just read it and found it interesting and enlightening. Nothing negative about it. Just facts with appropriate explanatory comment. Remember, "Non illegitimi carborundum." You are a special and unique talent.

Agreed! Very interesting and informative article. And Chris is the best!
DonHo-kieHi
What they said! Some are just ticked off when players leave for any reason. Others feel that some should have never been here. Chris just enlightened us!

Love it! That was my OCS squadron motto. I also liked the perspective from Chris.

Excellent read. Thank you

Very fair article. Good, honest info.
Now, I do remember hearing from a lot of people (maybe/maybe not CC) that "the portal" is only a database, it won't increase transferring - just make it easier for those who were already going to transfer....right...didn't believe it then and certainly not now...

It will be interesting to see how involved Pry will be in recruiting now

I am not certain that Abbey and Stevens starting for VT should be considerered awesome?
TekkNerd
Well...its a long way until the start of the season. We bought in a lot of DEs. I have a very hard time believing that Stevens and Abbey are our top two. To be honest I haven't heard coach Chaos sound as high on those guys as Pry does.

Saw Williams play a few times (My son played at Benedictine) smooth athlete BUT not physical.
