Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Sam Siefkes does not coach a position. (Ivan Morozov)
1) Have the Hokies ever had coordinators that are not also position coaches? I go back to Frank Mosley and then Jerry Claiborne, and the first coach I recall to have coordinators was Charlie Coffey and then Jimmy Sharpe and his wishbone. — George Baylor

Regarding high school recruiting in 2025, don’t forget the money part of the equation. Money is out in the open now. If we can’t make a competitive offer or promise, we stand to lose a kid that we might have gotten in the past.

I think it’s super odd that, when Fuente was HC - he was chastised & crucified for how secretive & closed off practices were. He also was shady (on purpose) on telling us who was healthy or injured, in terms of who would be playing that week. Pry does the same exact thing(s), but doesn’t get nearly the criticism that Fuente got (for. the. exact. same. things.). Unsure why that is… but I haven’t forgotten & I’m watching the *exact* same people/fans who complained about fuente’s secretive ways with practice & injury reports, justify it under pry. Makes no sense to me.

Your comment “ The more positions that are allowed, the more money gets spent, and anybody who can win a spending competition — like Ohio State, Georgia and Alabama —“. Is funny out of context. I live in Birmingham, AL which is fully in UA/Auburn territory. And Bama is now crying the blues about the spending wars. They are currently lamenting that they don’t have the truly “deep pocket” donors like the Texas schools (Texas, Texas A&M, etc…) to compete in the spending sprees. I guess it’s all where you sit in your unique neighborhood! The Hokies will never be in the upper tiers for spending and that’s OK. Hold our head up and take pride in what we can do. Go Hokies, beat the Gamecocks! Thanks for the good coverage Chris!

The best way we beat USC is for our third string to take their first string out drinking the night before the game.

Predictions are like the snake I killed and put in my trash can. It really sticks after 2 days!!

We are gonna get killed by SC.

Yeah, we might get killed by the Cocks... then again, we might not... I have no clue.

You're really good at nurturing positivity for the Va Tech fanbase!

Good thing you are not our coach or a motivational speaker.

Chris, like you said, the rule allowing teams to hire as many coaches as they want really gives an advantage to big programs like Texas, Alabama, etc. Take Ohio State, for example — they have three offensive line coaches, which seems a bit over the top to me. I believe Bowen is the official O-line coach, and the other two are just assistants.

Good answers Chris. I'll add item 1.1 - Stay out of third and long!

I'm upset that I'm optimistic right now. It's pissing me off.

Be optimistic! It’s one of the joys of college football even though for about the past 15 years, we’ve been disappointed. Maybe this is the year :)
