Virginia Tech guard Jaydon Young dominated Syracuse on Saturday. (Ivan Morozov)
Virginia Tech guard Jaydon Young scored 26 points in Saturday’s come-from-behind win over Syracuse. That would have been his career high had he not scored 27 the previous Saturday in the Hokies’ win over Miami. In case you hadn’t noticed, the sophomore guard has been playing much better basketball recently and is making Tech a more well-rounded offensive team.

I love coach. I fear that he says "when" and retires with his 400+ wins. I hope not.

Is Young's late emergence motivated by the need to 'audition' for his portal prospects. "See what I can do! Now pay me."

Nah, good guy, good attitude. Mike Young knows his high school coach really well, and that connection was what helped bring him to Tech. My guess is he'll play for Tech next season. Unless of course he reverts to his old form for the rest of the season and we decide it's not for the best. That's where I thought things were heading at one point.

Might wanna change the second FGM column on your first chart to FGA. :)

Interesting you don't mention Rechsteiner as a returning guard - I think he has helped out a lot. Certainly he has weaknesses but you can say that about everyone on the team.

Rechsteiner doesn’t look athletic enough to play PG at an ACC level. Looks like a SG stuck in a point guard body. We can do better than him in portal and give Hammond the reigns.

Coach Mike Young has done more with less than I believed possible. Congratulations Coach. The fans and alumni are with you.

Thanks for some great insight, as always, Chris. Before the season I was skeptical of this year's team winning any games in the ACC. Glad to be wrong, and congrats to CMY for doing a great job coaching this season.
GO HOKIES!

There is just so much to unpack when it comes to good coaching and NIL. Young is a great coach who was put in a piss poor situation and now, it seems like this whole season he has had to walk on pins and needles, not wanting to disrespect his current rosters while also realizing that more help has been needed. With his coaching and needed public wisdom, CMY has done one hell of a job coaching this team. Hopefully next year we see the uptick in support he deserves.

Dorenzo Hudson - complete change for the remainder of his career after an outburst against Seton Hall when Delaney was out.
