Aeneas Peebles has had a great season for Virginia Tech, but he hasn't had much help up the middle. (Jon Fleming)
1) Recently I heard an ex-NFL GM state that you have to build football rosters from the middle out. Meaning, on offense, QB/RB/C/OG are the foundation. And on defense, DT, MLB, and safety. It got me thinking about VTs struggles and wondering how we fare if measured by that barometer. – Hokie Bird

Chris, great takeaway from your article, thanks for sharing your family history. My father also enrolled at VPI in 1940 and played fullback on the team. He left for 2 years to fight in WW2 as a Marine in the Pacific. He graduated in 1946 and played in the Sun Bowl game. I wonder if my dad and your grandfather knew one another?

Wow, that's awesome. I've got one of his yearbooks. I can go through it one night this week to see which company (or battery, they had both back them) your dad was in, and whether or not he signed my grandfather's yearbook!
George Baylor
CC, I appreciate your take on the LB play of our team. You question: talent or coaching or both. To me it is "The Both" and that is the responsibility & accountability of the LB coach. That coach's job is: to recruit, develop and execute during the games. Our LB coach (also DC) has failed and if he remains on the staff after this year, that accountability, as it always has, is CBP's.
CC, would like to see future article on your (& the TSL;s staff) evaluations of each of our football coaches. AS recruiters, developers, game planners and in-game adjusters.
Thank you and Go Hokies, surprise me tonight with a W.

I know how I feel about Drones: I think he has peaked.,,and so has the play calling featuring 'Drones can do it all'. Granted, he 'saved' last season, but that did not make him an elite QB. Seeing Schlee just one game, he appeared (to me) to have a far better & quicker arm while still being a strong runner. That arm would have opened up the running game (Ha, Ha...or so I think!). I think Schlee has been wasted...but who knows, today could be his day as Drones seems questionable to start (I write this on Saturday).
But, I get it. Drones certainly deserved to start this season. After all, he 'saved' last season and he is getting paid the big bucks to play.

Section 7 firmly agrees with the need to put the LB Coach in the can and reset. regardless if he's the right DC, the position LB coach has been h dwelling this entire season and if we're honest -- pathetic since he's been in staff. can't win tight games if your Mike LB can't make plays.
Let's Go... Hokies!!!

Bluefield State Big Blue RB Ramon Brown

How is he doing?
Longtimegobblerfan
Looked it up. Played in seven games Has not played in last two 232 yards on 66 carries for 3.5 yards per average

I had no idea he was up here (I live in Princeton, Bluefield native). I hope Davon Morgan can do well with that team, so far, they've not been very good, and they're 1-9 this year. I'd really like to see more local talent, I think it would get more local interest.
Oh, and on a side note, it looks like Bluefield State doesn't use duplicate jersey numbers. Take that however...lol.

105 players? We cannot develop the 85 we have today.
atlhokie1
We'll put them on scholarship then watch them leave as juniors for NIL money.
Maroon Effect
Expanding the roster with 10-20 walk on level players is not going to help this team.

very true.

It's like hoarding. Let's keep that obscure slip of paper, or that odd-shaped nail, we may need it some day for something or another. The odds that someone from #86 to #105 actually contributing is tiny. And it takes coaching resources away from the other 85 guys, many who need some better coaching.

Doubts about this coaching staff's abilities come through loud and clear in just about everything I read on TSL these days, whether in subscriber posts or staff articles. And with good reason.
