Well, the bad news is we’re back to not playing meaningful football in November. Good news is, it’s never too late to take a fine-toothed comb to the officiating. So how exactly have the stripes performed during the Hokies’ last two games against orange-clad opponents? Let’s get into it. 

You Make the Call Review: Holding vs. Syracuse 

I was worried when Chris and Andy talked about this one a bit on the podcast last week that it might skew the results one direction more than the other. It turns out, my fears weren’t particularly justified. 

Of 242 votes, a whopping 83% voted “legal play,” with a divine 17% agreeing with the call on the field of a hold. I don’t know if you guys don’t listen to Chris, or if you don’t listen to me, but hey, we finally have some controversy! That’s right, I’m going with a hold on this one.

In fairness, Subscribers had solid reasoning for passing on a potential flag:

Great block. Nothing illegal about it. Out in front and arms aren’t grabbing or pulling. Direct push straight into the defenders chest. - phtbddh 


I would say it is not holding (in fact 3 is holding 9 for most of the play. At the end when 3 turns to the ball carrier he is not being prevented from that move by 9 holding him IMO. - GO_HOKIES_GO
