   The pieces of this roster just don’t seem to be cohesive. Thus feels like a mess.

   Proud of Poteat. Stuck around and improved and now should play significant minutes. Rare these days. Most may have transferred down to get more time. But he’s persevered and hope he has a good year.

   I can't remember the last time that VT beat expectations in the regular season. We made a wild run to the ACCT title but a few teams have caught fire and done that. I'm going to temper expectations as you can see how quickly optimism can turn to turmoil over in Lane Stadium. I always like basketball season more than football anyway (2 games a week vs. 1).

   Hopefully we see progress with the team this year. There may be some struggles early as the coaches figure out the best rotations and the team works through developing chemistry. My biggest concern is that this team will really need a number of players to make big jumps in contribution to be good, especially on the offensive end. Young's track record certainly gives us hope here.

   If VT can just hold their own on the boards they should be a .500 team in the ACC - if they actually have some skills on offense and gel as a team, this could be a great season. A lot of “ifs” there, but I am looking forward to the season.

   There was one late season game ladt year when Wessler had to come in and play some minutes due to injuries and foul trouble, and he seemed to hold his own. I'm with you in that I hope he can build on that and it's encouraging to hear that CMY has him in the planned rotation. Wessler may wind up being the fan favorite if he can contribute.

      With so many new players, predicting an ACC, or overall record, is a crapshoot. Maybe anywhere from 8-12 ACC wins. Hoping for 20-21 wins but that could be a tough goal. Again, until we see 7-8 games, it's hard to get a take on the "orphan team. Schutt isn't mentioned a lot at all and getting real PT will give CMY the opportunity to use some really different line-ups. Hope he can become that shooter it's obvious this team will ned.

      I think non-conference might be a little rough while everyone learns the system and each other. I think expectations heading into conference play will be low, but I think they will beat those expectations.

         When I hear that I think of how well SC played us in game 1 last year with I believe 4 transfer starters. Playing well in non-conference games can be really important if you are usually on the NCAA bubble. Makes me wonder if a "system" coach is at a disadvantage in this transfer era.

   FWIW, in my time at Marshall, I was friends with an assistant coach from Huntington Prep. They played Combine Academy when Patrick Wessler was there. He told me Wessler had tremendous potential and could be an excellent player if developed correctly. You don't see college basketball players redshirt immediately very often like Wessler did, which tells me they had a long-term plan for him from the start. Now that it's his third year in the program, I think he might pleasantly surprise some people. I hope my friend was right.
