   Every time I am lucky to get back to Blacksburg from Texas, a piece inside me is rekindled. I always drive into campus off 460 since that is where I first drove into campus. I always try to stop at the Pylons before leaving since that is where I said my final goodbye my senior year. Love Blacksburg will all my heart (except in November to February :-) ).

   Life has some interesting twists and turns. Hope you and your family never tire of being close to "The Burg". Remember the feelings you had while writing the article on the days when you are thinking "What was I thinking" or something close to that........ BTW, you are quite an asset to TSL. Nice to see such a great relationship.....

   Speaking as someone born in Roanoke and a VT grad who left VA in 1988 and has only been back twice (last time in 2006), I envy you. Blacksburg today would shock me. So would VT. Hope you enjoy being back, and much success to you!

   I have a townhouse in Blacksburg (wife and I went to VT, love being home for a few days a month), and a condo in Boone (daughter goes to App) where we can stay with her, so there a few days a month. So I get most of your Blacksburg/Boone comparison, solid analysis.

    You are very fortunate - living at Tech would be a dream come true for me but at my age the best I can do is drive 2 hours to Blacksburg for a few football games, get there early to eat breakfast at the hotel buffet enjoy wandering around the campus and town and reminiscing about my times there '67-'71 and 74'-'75.

    Glad you are back. Dont stop at the Cascades in showing them around. Come west young man. All of New River Valley and Claytor to Bristol via 81 and through West Virginia and Tazewell County via 19/460 to Abingdon. Like Pipestem and Burkes Garden.

       Gods Country! When living in central NC for years, I brought my Boy Scout Troop many times to backpack in that area. Grayson Highlands, Virginia Creeper, fossil hunting on the rim around Burkes Garden, stretches of the AT Canoeing the New, Camp Powhatan and Ottari. Many of them as adults with kids of their own still call me to ask for directions to some of those places so they can take their kids!

    Welcome Home! My wife and I made the move 5 1/2 years ago after 34 years in NOVA and have never looked back. You and I are at different stages of life, but take advantage of everything the NRV has to offer and enjoy raising your kids. The time will be gone sooner than you can fathom.

    Well done- I see why you chose writing as your profession. On the heels of your article I just watched Honda Kotb’s 60th birthday celebration on the Today show. They really played up her VT experience with video clips from her days @ Tech, appearances by the Hokie bird & the Corp and awarding a scholarship to a Tech student. Also had some great video of the campus, the Drillfield, Lane Stadium and all things Hokie. Great exposure for Tech- makes me want to plan a trip to the Burg!

    Nice article and good memories As a freshman in 1970 we had a Hardee’s that closed about 10pm. After that a truck stop in Christiansburg if you wanted to eat something late and if you knew someone with a car Life was good
