Last meeting
The Hokies hammered the ’Hoos in Charlottesville last year, a 55-17 rout that was Tech’s 18th win in 19 meetings in the series. Virtually everything went right for Virginia Tech, which got 244 passing yards and three touchdowns from Kyron Drones, who added 50 more yards on the ground. Bhayshul Tuten ran for 117 yards and a touchdown, adding another score on a kick return. Da’Quan Felton caught three passes for 133 yards and found the end zone twice. Defensively, Tech sacked Anthony Colandrea five times, held the Cavaliers to 43 rushing yards and forced two turnovers. The 38-point margin of victory was Tech’s largest in Charlottesville since a 38-0 blanking in 2011.
The big picture
Things didn’t go great for the Cavaliers in Elliott’s second season, though the tragic events at the end of the 2022 season made UVa’s task much more difficult than a garden variety rebuild.
