This is my annual update of the Virginia Tech Athletics financial information for the year ended June 30, 2023 (FY 23). This report is later than usual again because the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts for the past several years has not been completing the Virginia Tech and University of Virginia NCAA reports until much later after the fiscal year end, with Virginia Tech’s being completed April 17, 2024 and UVa’s completed March 8, 2024. The Virginia Tech report was posted to the APA website in mid-May, 2024, and the University of Virginia report, although completed earlier, was posted by the APA in mid-June 2024. As noted in past reports, the following standard caveats and comments are made:
- The FY 23 data includes the 2022 football season, and the 2022/2023 sports seasons.
- There can be differences between current and prior year numbers within the same school depending on how the school chooses to present its reports. Contributions reported will not agree to the annual information reports from the athletic fund-raising numbers primarily because only the application of those amounts are presented. If the funds are not expended or transferred to operations, they are generally not reported in the NCAA reports.
As in prior years, the information for Virginia Tech and UVa is derived from the published NCAA reports on the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts (APA) web site as noted above.
