Witt has brought in a lot of great coaches for our Hokies. I'd like to see all of them do a "Beamer" and stay here until retirement. Hey, I can dream if I want. Although I like to think of it more as positive thinking at this point in time.
GO HOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!
namibiahoke
One other point that Coach needs to consider: KY just loss in the 1st round of the Dance AND there is already BS about replacing Calipari. Now, that's loyalty at its worse!
Longtimegobblerfan
If he leaves, he will leave with 33 million in his pocket. Not a bad deal.
namibiahoke
All of us have come to love Coach. He represents the highest standards that we all cherish...and he is a winner!
He made an off-the-cuff statement one time that his whole career had been in Virginia, to the point that he was already tenured into the retirement system!! Let's keep him happily at home!!
Go Hokies!

Really enjoyed watching Liz play! Best shooter in VT history! Such a amazing and beautiful person inside and out! Hope the team can make another run! Go Hokies!??

Damn crying shame for Liz,and for the team and for CKB.Im sure CKB and the rest were gearing up for a deep run in March.I pray Liz fully has a full recovery and a long WNBA career she's more than earned it.If Whitt has half a brain he WILL NOT let money be the issue that takes coach Brooks to Kentucky.Brooks loves Tech,he's a Va native and one hell of a good WBB coach.Whitt and the power brokers step it up and pay Coach whatever you must to keep him at Tech otherwise everyone will transfer, recruiting will fall off a cliff and the culture and status of Va Tech WBB will take years to rebuild to the present level if ever.
George Baylor
I really like CKB as a person, father, husband and coach. He needs to do what he DEEMS best for himself and his family. Should that be taking the Kentucky job, so be it. How many of you long-time HOKIES, like me VT'63, would have EVER predicted going to the Final Four? Coach Brooks, his staff and the PLAYERS have done wonders for VT and women's basketball.
Best wished, CKB and go Lady Hokies!!!!!!

There's no guarantees besides the money. Bonnie was never successful at Kansas.

Maybe he should go to Kentucky!
VolTron
And the team loves him! Excellent coach, probably a great recruiter judging by the team's comments when he left here
VTaimhigh
All good things must come to an end. Just hope it doesn't end now. Validates what we already knew about Kitley. And Coach Brooks has to do what is right for him. He will always be loved by Hokie Nation; regardless of which path he takes. Hope he and VT find a way to remain together until Coach Brooks hangs up his spurs.

Why doesn’t Babcock take 1 million that we are paying Coach Mike Young and add it to Kenny. Kenny is getting it done with WBB. Next year should be critical for CMY based on last two years of performance
Rony1
Give it a break. Mike Young is a good coach. What do you know about critical?
bhokie
Coach Brooks should be paid more than CMY due to the success of the program!!
nkhooch
The pay differentials between men's and women's basketball has nothing to do with success. It's how much money is brought in through the sport. Home attendance is going well for us but ticket prices are lower and I suspect TV revenues for women's bball are a lot less too. Unfortunate, but just the way it is.
gemrooty
That's way beyond stupid!

Oh boy, another Ms. Cleo! And a Lawyer, too. Yea, let's take cash away from a signed contract, give it to another coach, and not get sued for millions. What a ridiculous statement.
Hokie101
I would go to the game if I got donuts?
Great team, great year, finish strong!
Go Hokies

No one will miss Liz, Cayla and Georgia (if she goes) more than I will. They created the culture of this team along with Kenny. The culture is unique and I don’t see Kenny walking away from that, especially if Tech does the right thing and gives him more money. We also have some incredibly talented players already on this team who are going to blossom next year. And the transfers and high school recruits who have committed to being here will comprise a potentially great class. Next year’s team will be different, obviously. You don’t lose two All-America players and just pick up where you left off. But don’t think for a minute next year’s team can’t be very, very good.

Excellent !!! Great post with something missing from a few other posts: Facts!!
adgoodri
I completely agree with this! VT has a bright future with WBB. I imagine he will get paid as such.
MotorCityHokie80
This is where your prowess as an AD is judged Mr Babcock. Keep Coach Brooks. Make it happen.

Exactly, this is where Whit earns his paycheck. WBB is going to be a real revenue sport soon and KB has built a sustainable program - pay that man his money.
KenStuckInJersey
Money aside, Blacksburg and Virginia Tech is the best place to call home. The best place.
But we should pay the man, too.
`lag
Mmm, donuts. No one told me about that.
It's going to be an end of the era in a couple weeks anyway and I'm - I think - looking forward to watching a young team develop next year. But yeah, that just hurts, not the way the movie was supposed to end. Hell, I was at the game and had a great view watched Kitley run the court thinking "What the heck"? but not expecting that. Yep, saw her very last VT play. Damn.
And the rest of it, just not going to think about it. What happens, happens. I've got to work on my tennis game anyway.
jfhokie
Feel the same . It happened right in front of me. I also need to work on my game (but it's bowling)
hokie_world
The fans are there and they are attending. We have a top class coming in and it could be a rebuilding year due to youth. Season tickets to the women's games are dirt cheap at $100. I would be glad to pay twice the price if not more for the product Kenny has produced. Kenny got a raise after the final four last year. I think he is worth more to compette in the ACC as Stanford is coming in, ND, L'ville and NC St will be good. This is a deep conference and to succeed Tech needs to keep a top coach. Let us not be pennywise and pound foolis as Tech was with Hendricks years ago.
Build the program and they will come!!!
GO HOKIES!!!
MDHokie79
They may not come if CKB leaves. I wonder how many of our great incoming class will decommit. Maybe best to promote from within?
hokie_world
The incoming class is sure to fade if KB leaves. That is a given in this age of transfer.
GobbleGobble10
On the bright side, Buzz left and we still had some success afterwards (ACC Champs!).
If we're being honest, UK basketball is an upgrade that any of us would take in our own careers if we had the chance. Thanks for the memories and best of luck to Kitley, Amoore, and Brooks!
2hhoop3
You better make sure you know what sport you are talking about. Kentucky women's basketball is not an upgrade, at present, from VT. There is a reasonable debate which can be had as to the respective ceilings of each program.
atlhokie1
WBB at Kentucky will always be in the shadow of the men's team. Maybe the allure of playing South Carolina and the money will be too much.
Rony1
Totally agree!
GobbleGobble10
The ceiling is much higher. They are a huge basketball school! Plus they have SEC cash to burn. I love Tech as much as anyone, but I'm also realistic. I'd love it if he stayed, but it's totally understand if he goes.
Durham Hokie
Whit should do everything in his power to keep coach Brooks
`lag
$1M? $2M? $3M?
Atlee Hokie
I thought CKB was already at the $2m range. And among the top 15-20 Womens HC's
atlhokie1
A little over $1 mil per year.
Chasesfish
CKB leaving would be a real kick in the pants.
VT shouldn't be a stepping school, especially not to a smaller state's school.
`lag
We do the same, we got Kenny from JMU and bigger fish can get stuff from VT. It does kind of piss you off though, the P2 even after they screw everyone else over it looks like everyone will be working for them anyway, vetting coaching and player prospects.
At least need to make it like soccer in Europe, sign a contract with the player and when the bigger school comes calling you sell the contract to the highest bidder. Otherwise, what's the incentive to develop players?
hokiepro
We were in the Final 4 last year; Kentucky women’s bball isn’t a “bigger fish”. We MUST stop acting resigned to being a smaller fish as fans and especially as an administration
cdogvt
Oof. That was a kick in the n—s. We have a good shot to win 2, let’s win those and go from there.
hookie
Well, that certainly was a buzz-kill article. Could you possibly have packed in any more bad news?
Cheesehokie
The news about Liz was bad enough. If CKB leaves, they'll need to drape Cassell in black
Techman77
Yeah, I feel the same. I just hope Whit Babcock can find a way to retain Coach Brooks. FWIW, it doesn’t seem that Brooks was looking to make a move. It’s just other schools are trying to replace their current coach and are eyeing ours. Retaining Coach Brooks should be doable.
