   It’s not good when you recruit a guy like Holloway and develop them into a solid player and then portal older guys in to play ahead of them. That’s going to suck if guys like this transfer because they are basically being jumped in line by portal players. We’ll never be able to keep guys in the program by doing this.

      True , it’s not good for the players that get affected negatively but it is good for those that excell when the lights are on. And more to the point, this is the state of college football right now. For all teams, not just Tech.

   Conventional wisdom is it would be in Tuten’s best interests to return next season. I believe the team will fare no worse than this season. I agree with Coleman that he has not quite reached Herbert’s level yet.

   My guess is that BT didn't receivemuch in the way of NIL money as he was an unknown coming into the season. However, if he decides to come back in 2024, I suspect he'll be rewarded. As noted, at this point, he's alow round draft pick or FA he'll recive a small signing bonus but no gurantee of making an NFL roster. If he retrunes to Blakcsburg, there's always the chance of an injury but the same risk is there of being injured in training camp. (Ask Danny Coale about that.) If he does return, he has the chance to improve his draft stock.

   Could you do an article on how NIL $$ is assigned a value to a player or position? Curious on how NIL collective groups determine $$ doled out- etc...

      No, we can't do that article, because we don't know. Although we work with Triumph NIL and The Hokie Way on a number of fronts, we don't ask those questions, and if we did, we doubt they would tell us.

   Besides NIL and draft position, maybe Tuten would return for a slightly different scheme in which they highlight his scat back skills. This is something he has been quoted on, wanting to pattern his play more like McCaffrey in the NFL. Hopefully he returns.

    Not on;y should Tuten come back for the NIL, but to secure his degree so that he has career options should he not make it to the NFL. RBs are a dime a dozen in the NFL and the adage: Never take a RB in the early rounds is almost always true except for the absolute exceptional running backs, like those considered for the Heisman.

    Redshirt Greene and Holloway in 2024. Then you have 3 young (but developed) receivers with Bradshaw for 2025. Always be redshirting.

    Did Herbert break tackles like Tuten does? I don't think so. I'd favor Tuten as preferred RB if I were choosing. Just IMO.

       If you break 3 tackles and avoid a 3 yd loss and turn it in to a 3 yd gain it’s a great play, great effort and statistical win. But it’s still a 3 yd gain. That happened against odu. The nfl is where college players go to end their dreams which is why it stands for (not for long). Totally agree that Tuten does not look better than Herbert or Evans. Hope we can “nil” him enough to stay. He is a good player.

    If we can get the majority of our young receivers to stay, I feel like we would finally get the roster churn into a good place. After next season, the 4 guys go and the next crop can take over. Similar for Tuten to Coney, and then maybe even Drones to Pop. The COVID year was necessary but it'll be nice to get all those off the books. Go Hokies! See you all in Annapolis!

    The last time we had 4 senior receivers at the top of the depth chart was 2007 with Hyman, Royal, Morgan, and Harper if I'm not mistaken. Felton, Jennings, Gosnell, and Lane should hopefully be better off considering there won't be a two-quarterback system with one being a true freshman.

    I would be surprised to see some transfer portal departures for Virginia Tech between now and the 2024 season. Above doesn’t sound right. Should be “would not”

    Tuten is a very good back. I was impressed with his speed and ability to break tackles. I certainly hope he returns. What is the backup plan? It was a big dropoff after Tuten.

       Tuten's running helps the passing game and vise versa. We really need Tuten to return, super big drop-off to Thomas and whoever is #3.

          Thomas doesn't seem to be the same back he was before he got injured 2 years ago. Can't break tackles, doesn't fall forward like he used to, and unless he really gets going then the speed just isn't there. Maybe it's just comparing him to Tuten, but I feel like he was better as a freshman.
