Winning at Louisville was a bridge too far for Virginia Tech. (Ivan Morozov)
I suspected that Louisville would be a bridge too far for a Virginia Tech team that has made major progress against the bad teams on its schedule. However, I didn’t realize the bridge was as wide as it was. I think we pretty much know who the Hokies are at this point, and that’s a middle-of-the-pack team with some good strengths, but also some major flaws.

Was at Louisville and it reminded me of GT in 18, and Duke in 19.
Pry still needs to revamp roster at OL, DL, LB, and Safety. Listen to Brohms post game presser. He knows what the heck he is doing

@CC how big of an impact was it for Fuga not being in there? Do you think the game would have been closer with him clogging up the middle better than the backups? Or is it lb core again just not getting to their spots?

It's bad enough we were all looking for a "nice try" but we really didn't even get to that moral victory standard. It's funny though, it's not like something we didn't know. We have an oline that was going to be a problem but got better over the season...but not from 0 - 60. And quite simply you have to play the season with what you got and hope for incremental improvements for next year. And that' kinda what is meant by being behind the power curve on recruiting, it becomes a circular arguments, need good players to do better, but you need to be better to get players.
Oh well, again we knew we were heading for that 2 outta 3 to end a bowl games. We get "easier" teams but they're no different than VT, getting better as the season goes along.

Great write up. VT is what it is. Duh'Ville did to VT what it did to ND. How Pitt beat them is way beyond belief.
I haven't watched the replay - because I was at the game. But - it sure looked like the Cards were playing with 12 or 13 players on D. They were everywhere. And - they called the right D almost on every play. And - they played fast. There were a couple of plays that it looked like Drones or Tuten were going all the way - but a defender made the saving tackle - because they were in the right position - and can make tackles..
Give the Cards credit too for having one of the best O coaching staffs anywhere. Plus - they inherited some very good players.

You nailed it. They were killing our OL, and spot on about the LBs. OL wasn't even allowing time for the plays to develop

What a strange year for our stud CBs, 4 and 44. They have not really been tested against the pass in 9 games (maybe they did in FSU game-it's the one game I missed). I agree with you on 15. His tackling and instincts are atrocious. It seems we would be much better off with 13 or 8 playing corner, and moving 4 to safety. Amazing that 5 and 26 have not been able to play together because of injuries and targeting. Final comment--18 seems to have disappointed thus far--do you think it's just lack of experience?

Was at the FSU game, they got tested for a quarter. FSU's coordinator called the game like a scrimmage instead of continuing to run the ball, VT got within 5 points due to pass defense, then they just ran the ball again.
Chris's writeup is spot on. This team lacks a solid middle linebacker and is too young on O Line to be better than .500.

I don’t think uva is a bad team. They beat UNC at Chapel Hill, which is more impressive than any VT win. And had several close losses.
FYI yesterday Army beat unbeaten and ranked Air Force

Army has also lost to LA-Monroe and UMass...and LSU beat them 62-0.
AFA lost that game yesterday as much as Army won it. I think AFA turned it over 3x in the first quarter.

UVA is 2-7; 1 win was vs W&M who would’ve been winning at half if not for egregious missed calls by the officials on the field and replay booth

BC's likelihood of winning 6 in a row is irrelevant to this one game.
It's hard to flip six tails in a row. Unless you've already flipped five...then it's a 50/50 proposition.
And really, using a winning streak as justification to support BC losing is some combo of silly, non-sensical, and counterintuitive

Similarly, basing VTs chances on a history in Chestnut Hill is irrelevant. (even though we are 4-3 in Boston the Iast seven….which is fine)

I still have a burr under my saddle on the “Hokie leaving the Metro” issue and how MSU and UL drove the scenario. I can’t even hear Louisville without thinking Loserville and the screw job.
Of course no one currently at UL was involved or even remotely remembers the incident; but it still pisses me off.

A large percentage of their fans are garbage. Similar to Miami fanbase in some ways. They probably have a few more nice, respectable fans than Miami…but overall they’re mostly obnoxious

When you really think about this team, it becomes clear that winning four games so far isn’t as bad as it seems.
On offense, you have a LT & LG who are R-F with just a handful of snaps prior to this year. You have a QB in Drones who has a ton of physical ability but very limited experience…a true project who needs time. You don’t have a reliable, experienced TE who can run block and work the middle of the field to make those tough 5 yd catches in traffic for first downs.
On defense, you have a group of LB’s who, save for Tisdale, had zero experience playing the Mike. You have a guy who played WR last season playing and starting in the secondary and your best safety misses a bunch of games in the middle of the season.
On the coaching side, you have a DC who is new to running the D, an OC who has struggled to put his players in position to succeed and an offensive line coach who I believe is the third OLC in the last three years.
