Kamren Robinson looks as if he'll prove to be a recruiting miss for Virginia Tech. (@Kamrenrobinsonn)
1) This might be too captain obvious, but I will ask. Does Tech’s gap at mike linebacker right now open up a potential recruiting flip for a higher level prospect. I forgot the name, but heard some positive discussions around a flip if they didn’t get Cole (not a mike but an athletic freak). – Mark3216

Highest IQ D players:
#1) Vince Hall - add 3 0r 4" and 30 LBS + NFL Hall of Fame.
#2) The Fuller who killed GT's triple option
#3) Bruce Smith - in two plays he knew how to beat the blocking schemes.
#4) Myrone Newsome - one of my fav of all times.
#5) Cody Grimm - who destroyed Texas in the Sugar Bowl for VT's first BIG win.
Coaches can't teach 'instinct'. They can teach technique - play awareness - scheme execution. It's like this in any sport. There's the OL IQ - which most coaches say that these guys need to have the highest football IQ. That's the answer to VT's offensive woes. Yeah - they need have all the physical skills too.-

Cody Grimm played well after the Texas Sugar Bowl win.
jackofalltrades
Cody Grimm was in pull-ups when VT played Texas in the Sugar Bowl.

Bruce Taylor would make a huge impact on this team as they need that true big body Mike to compliment the gazelles they have at the other positions.

At this point, I would take any starting middle linebacker VT had prior to this particular group. This is the most athletic but lowest IQ (for the position) LBs we have had since I have been watching VT football It makes me appreciate how good our prior players were, including Hollifield, who got a lot of grief for the deep seam routes he struggled with at times. That is nothing compared to the basic ability to fill gaps and tackle consistently that this group struggles with.

What we need is another tackling machine like Rick Razzano. Now that was a linebacker
SarahVTHokie24
I was going to post the same thing. Razzano still holds most of the linebacker records at VT . I was fortunate enough to watch him play...no one comes close

Me too. He was fun to watch.

Mike Johnson wasn’t too shabby either.
Warped Hokie 76
I remember riding in an elevator with 2 girls in McBride during Spring Quarter in ‘75 or ‘76 when we stopped & Razzano got in. He was wearing bib overalls and no tee shirt. The guy was built like a muscular coke machine- very wide and thick. I think the 3 of us just stared until we reached the ground floor. The girls looked at each other & giggled. I walked out of McBride trying to imagine what his dating life must be like!

Let’s not forget George DelRicco. Great run plugger.

Hope the coaches are listening to you. We shall see if the blitz count goes up. And, I agree fully we have to find top inside LB talent after the season. Thanks for your always very well thought through answers...different perspective that most of us really appreciate.

OL and RB help is equally important. For a big school like us to have the 125th best OL in the country makes zero sense. And when Tuten plays his last Hokie snap, the zRB room will be… lacking.
