Getting Grant Wells loose on the read option could help the Virginia Tech offense. (Jon Fleming)
1) After watching some replays and reading Brandon Patterson's article (specifically first two videos), it seemed ODU was selling out to stop the run by sending all their LBs forward at the snap. On those plays, is it on Wells to read the defense and pull the ball back to run it himself or throw it? Or are they designed handoffs? – Lumbee09

Does Pry in his first crack as a Head Coach have the intestinal fortitude to fire a nice guy coordinator? I know from personal experience that such a decision is gut retching, and I am pretty sure Frank had some sleepless nights over similar issues. When the time comes, I hope Brent can suck it up. We shall see. I suspect the crisis point is fast approaching.

After one game I think we know the answer to #2. Rudolph and Glenn are doing great elsewhere and we looked basically the same. Pretty easy analysis

Peoples would be the last player I want to lose, he is just too valuable to lose for this team. Hope the rumor is false.

Bowen, Bowen, Bowen?
79EEHOKIE
Let me get this strait, the two guys who left are going gangbusters, and I'm optimistic because Bowen has some sycophants?
khakiblue
Yea, they don't seem to have a problem now.
TDVick
That was my interpretation. Based on a limited sample, the two guys who leave are flourishing, but the guy we kept continues to flounder. I wish that someone could devise a sensible top-down theme and then implement it. It's early, hopefully the light bulb will come on and things will get better.

Rudolph inherited a line full of blue chippers at Notre Dame. That's his type of player. Not surprising that he has them playing well. He definitely strikes me as the 'get the most from the top talent' type of coaches, not a 'get the most of out of average players' type coach.
He was 2-3 years away from that kind of roster @VT.
Glenn called a good game against a very overmatched opponent. We'll see how he does against Narduzzi's D in Pittsburgh this weekend.

So Corn was a better OC than Bowen?...now I know we're in trouble
DelMarHokie
From Sam Houston State website. Corn is the OC there now.
"Cornelsen comes to the Bearkats after serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach at Virginia Tech for six seasons. Under his tutelage, the Hokies produced three of Virginia Tech's top four seasons for total offense over the past 25 years, compiling 444.4 yard per game in 2016, 440.7 in 2020 and 428.7 in 2018 seasons"

I’ll take Brad Cornelson for $500, Alex

Cornelson's issues were personnel related with QB management, not really the plays.

I think both last year and so far this year that the coaches have the mindset of establishing the run no matter what. A little variation such as (ducks)
the jet sweep or misdirection wouldn't hurt but then I'm not a coach.

Sound philosophy. .

I guess the ODU defense qualifies as the Maginot Line — at least compared to Tyler Bowen’s offensive “scheme.”
