Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones didn't have the best spring game, largely due to outside factors. (Jon Fleming)
Kyron Drones didn’t have much of a chance to show off his skills in the Virginia Tech spring game, largely due to things outside of his control. So, let’s look at the little bit of film he does have and in the context of the two biggest discussion points regarding him: picking up the offense and mechanics.

I left the other subscription site and joined here in the offseason about the same time that Andy joined TSL. This is a really great analysis and I think you had me at "scapulohumeral rhythm." Glad to be here and can't wait to see more quality writing like this as we get out of talking season this year. Thank you Brandon and TSL!

Coach should let WW 3 get some playing time this season when and where appropriate. I think he's the real future.

Outstanding job of breaking down the throwing mechanics. I’m hopefulreps, along with better protection, will be the key.

Drones threw an out in spring game that was ugly. Skipped on ground to receiver. Hopefully he can work on mechanics, he threw off back foot. Definitely looks the part, but his body language was not great. Playing with white team was definitely challenging. Hopefully summer will get him more competitive to try to unseat wells. Wells looked good though

Yea its not like he had the pocket collapsing on him or anything that play.

Love your stuff Brandon! Always great detail paired with tape - my favorite type of analysis.

I would say his throwing motion is better than Tyrod Taylor’s early in his VT career. When I saw TT throw in his first Spring game I thought he would never get on the field. Over time his mechanics improved to a point where (with a little luck) he would have become a NFL starting QB. There is plenty of time for Drones to perfect his mechanics, the question is can he learn and implement an offensive game plan - that will determine his fate. He needs to have a clear understanding of the play calls, read the defense pre-snap, and know his first three reads - if he can do that he will be a starting QB one day.
