Grant Wells (6) and Bhayshul Tuten (33) are leaders in the clubhouse to start for Virginia Tech. (Jon Fleming)
Andy Bitter went over Virginia Tech’s post-spring depth charts in a pair of articles covering the offense and defense. Today and tomorrow, I’ll follow that up with my own thoughts about where the Hokies stand on both sides of the ball, position-by-position.

So I guess we chalk Bullock up to another "big get" that didn't pan out. I remember he was supposed to be the next big thing at QB. Another bust like QP. Just goes to show you can't believe all the hype.
George Baylor
For Roster Space: QB's, keep Wells, Drones, Watson & the walk-on. All others to the Portal.

Agree, lots of fans seemed to have understandable hope for Drones when the transfer was announced. I think he will be used this fall, but only as a situational change-up, maybe inside the 10 yard line. He won't be unseating Wells as the starter.
I'll give Bowen a pass for last year, one he probably doesn't deserve considering his lack of track record coming in. If we are awful again on offense with the upgrades we've made in personnel then he's gotta go.

Disagree.,
I like what Dwight and Michael Vick says about coaches. They only can do so much... when it gets on the playing field, its down to talent and execution. The coaches simply can't instruct them how to go to the bathroom. I take their opinion over many
Simply, alot of the VT contingent cannot comprehend the team the Fuente left was horrible, no talent, and really were not power 5 players, however, they hung in and VT/Pry was not going to throw them off the bus for 40 transfers (like Colorado) . that is just not VT way.

I can't remember but I know brothers that played for VT was something that was tracked. Part was brothers that played at tech, brothers that played at the same time and how many sets or trio of brothers played at the same time. Last year I think there were 3 sets (Hollifields, Moores and Gosnells). Is that the record?

I feel like having 3 RBs with 3 years remaining is kind of scary that one will transfer at some point. But I do agree that right now they have some really good depth. I do agree with Farrell and/or Bullock potentially transferring and I think I would lead Bullock. I do also feel like people need to stop freaking out about Wells potentially starting again next year. Yes, he didn't play well but it was a new system, a new staff, and a lot of issues. But you could argue that he played better than Burmeister and could still very much so improve, we've seen his potential at Marshall.
Long-Lost Hokie
Credit where it's due: after the spring, it seems pretty clear the offensive coaching staff is a better constructed unit, and pretty much every position room is more talented and deeper (with the possible exception of OL). It's not fall, none of that has earned a W yet. But the needle has moved in the right direction.
PS: It's not close. Wells is QB1 right now. He's a better QB than Drones. Blake Shapen was a better QB than Drones, which is why Drones left Baylor. He's got a long way to go to make a move on Wells, who certainly has more physical tools than Shapen does and who has flashed at least as much potential upside, particularly in his time at Marshall.
Long-Lost Hokie
In other words, it's not crazy to say that Wells has the potential to be better than Shapen, and Drones couldn't beat out Shapen.
