Virginia Tech offensive line coach Ron Crook believes in keeping things simple. (Ivan Morozov)
Ron Crook had never worked with either Brent Pry or Pry’s dad Jim, a longtime assistant coach at numerous stops, but they’d crossed paths in West Virginia and Pennsylvania so frequently throughout their careers that, as Brent puts it, they’ve “kicked a lot of the same dirt.”

LOVE this article, though biased as an OL guy! FIT. It's important in coaching staffs, team sports, and in our regular day jobs in organizations all over. In one quick Andy Bitter article, I feel "connected" to Crook and what the OL is trying to accomplish. Never felt that way last year. Once the shiny star of a Rudolph name hire wore off along with our struggles in season 1...the OL was...messy. Crook just "fits" at VT, with Pry, Bowen, and more importantly the kids/players. Moore's comment that it seems like Crook has 'been here forever' says a LOT!

great article Andy, thanks for the promo code!

I knew VT was in trouble late in the Beamer era when Duke came out of the tunnel and their O and D linemen were bigger than the Hokies. VT may not be able to recruit with ‘Bama or Ohio State, but they sure should be able to win recruiting battles with DUKE. The critical need is P-5 linemen on both sides of the ball regardless of the coaching staff - I hope Crook is successful but the real challenge is identifying and acquiring talent.

Good article Andy. Looking forward to your coverage this season.
So my question is... How does Coach Crook plan to attack the ridiculous number of Illegal Procedure penalties generated by last year's OL?

Can't be any worse right? ?

Hiestand tree is not a bad thing. Dude has a good pedigree for OL, Thanks, for the insight!

This made me chuckle.
The massive Xavier Chaplin, who’s slimmed down to 328 pounds
That young man is massive and now has room to put some good muscle back on.
Is he even 20 yet?
He must seem like a sequoia out there.

A year's experience for most all of the roster bodes well for '23. If this offensive line can jell, we may actually have something. Fingers crossed.

Like the 7-8 deep comment. Also, "it's not only the best players, it's who jells the best together".
