So you think Kidd has reached his ceiling. I thought he improved a lot between his soph and junior seasons.

It's a lot of fun to speculate on future lineups...good stuff. If (unlikely, I think) both Maddox and Cattour return, along with Basile, then someone with at least two years eligibility needs to go to make room for that portal power forward. Who? Hate to see a big man leave, since competent ones are hard to find.

Chris, I need to respectfully disagree with you concerning CMY transfers. You state he has done “a good job with is incoming transfers”. I would say he has done a fair job. Yes he has certainly brought in some very good players. But in my opinion, the 3 on our bench now are not ACC caliber. We should not use a transfer slot for a “project”. We need bigger, stronger, quicker, more athletic players in order to compete in our league.

How is Kidd not “ACC caliber”? Or Camden? Kidd was at Clemson and a 4 star; Camden is really just a FR.

Nahiem Alleyne was going to transfer out after the late season offensive explosion of Maddox. We all assumed Maddox would get better and better and build off last season’s success.

So, the Buchanons and Wesslers are ... what? practice squad? get feet wet players? This made me track down Bamisile and Nolley, Bam's been sitting last couple games at OK, with too much of a deep dive looks like he's flaming out and we are lucky he left. Nolley seems pretty popular at Cinci (yes, Memphis now Cinci) he's the scoring they don't otherwise have, has a covid year (I'll be happy when these are done...) so NIL package for him or goes pro? but not a world beater by any means.

There's even a recent Athletics article on Nolley if interested

Bamisile transferred to GWU and then OU, which finished last in the B12. Nolley was not a team player and like Bamisile is w/his second program since he left Blacksburg. We didn't suffer from losing either. It's hard to figure what maotivated Alenye to bail

Buchanan and Wessler don't factor into that discussions because they play in the post, not at guard/wing.

You don’t think Buchanan can play wing?

CMY made a statement to the effect that Buchanan would make his living on the offensive glass. And he looks like a "statue" (meaning ripped).

He came to VT at 6’7” & 230 lbs, he’s a PF who might be able to step out and hit a 3 from time to time!

We know from evidence the last two years that Young is not going to go deep in the bench. So if we have 4 guards - pedulla, cattoor, collins, and rice - rotating between 3 spots....that is kind of par for rhe course for young. That assume maddox is out?

   VAHokie89 March 10, 2023 at 6:19 PM

Questions that ask if Pedulla would be the odd man out because of two freshmen? Unless we get a superstar, we need to stop thinking incoming freshmen are going to light the world on fire

I think Rice would have if he could have played the entire year.

Isn't the problem with the date about the avg per KO return need the starting point of the catch to be effective data? The data doesn't give the starting point and the average starting LOS after the return?

I had the same thought about kickoffs, but it was usually late in each game. When it became clear in each game that the offense wasn't going to drive the ball, my thought was "what the hell... Why not. Give it a shot... Can't be any worse than what our offense will do."

What about Radford to Texas A&M? Would love to still had him playing for VT and unless I missed it. You didn’t even mention his name?

I believe there was an issue with the administration at VT. I don't think Radford wanted to transfer but he basically had to

Love Radford, but I didn't include him because he transferred due to non-basketball situations. He would have been gone whether or not the portal existed.

The best Q&A I've read. Hadn't thought of the nuances on fair catching kickoffs vs. our offensive efficiency. Great writeup on the basketball team. Hopefully whoever we bring in to replace Mutts will have great "D" skills.

What's the deal with Maddux? Does he want to be in BBG? I think he would have helped us late this year. If he wants to be here, I hope he comes back. If not, thats unfortunate, but best of luck to him.

I believe he had some kind of mental issue, like the guy at Iowa who left for a few games for anxiety issues before returning. I hope he gets straightened out and returns, but we'll see.
