Virginia Tech hosts Syracuse on a Thursday night. (Jon Fleming)
When I first saw the schedule yesterday, already knowing the opponents and dates of Virginia Tech’s first four non-conference football games, the first thing my eyes went to was the opening games of the ACC slate. The first three names I saw were Pitt, Florida State, and Wake Forest, and I thought, “Yikes, that’s tough.”

Show me. Otherwise a win is not expected. A win is scoring more points than the other team, not a feel good improvement experience.

As bad as we were last season, we lost a few close games that were, imo, not only winnable but should have been won if the team had a stronger psyche. I think that will change this year AND I think we will be better overall with the possible exception of the OL. Perhaps an offensive scheme plus improvements at the other offensive positions will overcome a an OL that is at least a year away. ?

Let's hope the game at BC is not a "red bandana" game, so we register a 3rd winnnable game.

Great summary. To me, 5 or more wins would be clear improvement and be a success in our new norm. An offense in the top 75 and defense in top 40-50 would show sufficient progress as well. No confidence in our offensive staff until proven wrong.

I struggle to get over how completely the Pry team missed setting up an offensive scheme that we can run. Further, the scheme chosen lacks some of the more modern qualities of college offenses today. Lastly, the vanilla (probably overused now) nature of the original scheme, shows a lack of forethought or creativity.
With a new style of QB, I just have zero confidence that this offensive staff has the experience to do much of anything at this point.
How do you miss it THAT BADLY??

Improvement in all three phases and a .500 record should be the expected outcome this season.
