Good article. I share the hope and various math rankings and gamblers still put us in the top half of the ACC. But, objectively, we have two wins against teams who had key players missing. And if we are going to tie many of our 7 conference losses to a missing starter, it seems like we should discount our 2 victories in the same manner.
I agree with another commenter that the UVA game is a toss-up at best. Otherwise, I agree with the game by game assessment. But, I am not at all convinced that this year is capable of doing what the team did last year. And if we do have another strong finish the next question is - why do we keep going 2-7 in the first 9 games?

IF VT can get to .500 in the league and win two in the tournament that should be enough to get an at-large to the Dance. The Hokies are going to have to shoot at least 35% from behind the arc for the rest of the season to attain that goal, and based on what we have seen thus far that looks unlikely.

I'd love to be wrong, but all y'all might be getting ahead of yourselves. This team is 1-7 in its last eight games and hasn't won an ACC road game yet this year. Cattoor was only out for two full road games -- he played in the three others. They're 1-2 since his return. You're predicting a home win against a top-ten team that just beat us by 10, with Cattoor. We're about to face a team that beat us by ten earlier this month -- and that one wasn't as close as the score indicated.
If this year has taught us anything, it's that a Virginia Tech basketball team can't count their chickens before they're hatched. Let's just see if we can follow up one solid effort (and a W) with another one on Saturday.

I think one way to look at it is this:
This would be a minimum of 19:
Win any 1 of 3 of UVA, at Miami, at Duke
Win 4 of BC, FSU, GT, ND, UL (can only afford road L vs either GT OR ND…must beat BC, @UL & FSU)
Win 2 of Cuse, Pitt, Miami
IF winning 2 of the first set (UVA, at Miami, at Duke); that gives you one mulligan elsewhere EXCEPT at UL, home vs FSU

Oh and no mulligan home vs BC either

Excellent analysis. This is a team that heavily relies on the 3-point shot and low turnover rates. Gotta figure a couple of disappointing outcomes await. My guess is 7-4. Will need at least 2 wins in Greensboro.
